Thailand approves new warrant against Red Bull heir over hit-and-run case

BANGKOK (Reuters) - A Thai court on Tuesday issued a new arrest warrant for the heir to the Red Bull energy drink fortune over his alleged involvement in a fatal hit-and-run accident in 2012, police said.

Vorayuth Yoovidhya was accused of crashing his Ferrari into a policeman, Wichien Klanprasert, and dragging his body for dozens of metres before fleeing.

Authorities last month unexpectedly dropped the case, sparking public criticism that prompted a government review.

On Tuesday the criminal court in Bangkok approved a new arrest warrant for Vorayuth on a previous charges of reckless driving causing death and a new charge of drug use, assistant national police chief Pol Lt Gen Jaruwat Waisaya told Reuters.

Vorayuth missed eight court summonses before authorities issued an arrest warrant five years after the incident. He later disappeared, apparently abroad, according to social media posts.

Vorayuth's lawyer, Samack Chouvaparnante, told Reuters he had no knowledge of the new warrant and had not been in touch with his client.

TCP Group, which owns the Thai Red Bull brand, has previously said it has no direct links with Vorayuth. His late grandfather Chaleo Yoovidhya created the energy drink and his father has part ownership of the international Red Bull brand.

A panel this month revisited evidence previously not included in police reports which suggests that Vorayuth's car was travelling faster than previously thought, and reviewed a blood test taken after the accident that pointed to traces of cocaine in his system.

"We will submit a new report within two weeks so the public prosecutor can issue a issue a prosecution order," Jaruwat said.

What about warrants for those that tried to fix his speeding, letting him escape and trying to fix it that he was free to come back with nothing to answer for.   I'd also like to see Thailan

They should get him into a court room and show they are willing to do real justice

by an appropriate sentencing and a real prison stay of full length

Why is it that so many observers still see this whole affair as a farce?

I'd also like to see Thailand ask to see evidence of all financial transactions from red bull to him and seizing assets to that amount since he has been 'missing' for the family

Does this not just highlight what a total farce this whole process has been and what incompetent, corrupt fools all those involved really are! Shame on you all! If Thailand's precious IMAGE was EVER at stake, LOOK NO FURTHER THAN HERE!

Any warrant is not worth the paper it's written on,they need to get an

Interpol Red Notice issued, that's the only way they have any hope of

bringing him back to Thailand to face justice  (just hope it's not VIP justice)

no bail, no suspended sentences.

regards worgeordie

The RTP just need to ask the foreign press where he is. They've often photographed him coming out of his London house. I'm sure they are aware of any other properties he has.

I know it's too hard for the RTP to find him on their own.

That´s exactly the thing that is Thai justice, so I would say it happens all the time.

No, I will assume he is just the same guy as he has always been ????

Because it is!

However, it´s nice to know that they´ve issued a new arrest warrant. That must mean time is starting ticking from 0 days! At least that makes it a little bit harder for the guy. Never though anything else would happen in this case.

What a bloody joke????After 8 years they come up with this load of bo+++ks.

Supposed to have had interpol red notice before, nothing, then charges dropped.

Now another arrest warrant, which he will ignore just like before, what will plod do then?

Same as before, collect BIG brown envelopes.

I think should start issuing warrants to those who chose to help him like his mother

What exactly do you expect Interpol to do? They don’t have any arresting officers. All they can do is tell the Thai authorities and the local police where he is, if they know, but if he’s in a country that doesn’t have an extradition treaty with Thailand then that’s that.

Exactly, but we know that will never happen.

It will prevent him from going home, just like Thaksin. Yeah, it’s not much, but most Thais that I know are very connected to their motherland and it will hurt him to some degree, for whatever that’s worth.

This ridiculous saga has been going on for way too long...and too many pockets have been well lined already - just going round in circles now.

They can play this parade of clowns out all they want, but….

- there will never be any Interpol involvement.

- there will never be any extradition.

- the miscreant in question will never be arrested....and

- he will never see the inside of a courtroom.

The deal has already been made....what we’re seeing here is pure…’show’.
