Giving up on Pattaya

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

Despite owning a Condo in central Pattaya and living there for 6 months per year pre-covid, I now give up on jumping through all the hoops Thailand and Australia are putting up to get back there.

I will return at some point to sell my condo once communist Australia let's their citizens leave again, however I think I'm done with Thailand.

Anyone else giving up due to the barriers to get back?

I sold a house yesterday and still won't pay for their 21 day prison in Phuket to get back to Thailand, that's when I realised I may never come back ????

I paid 6 million baht when aussie exchange was 30 so if I sell it for 4.4 million baht I get my money back given 22 exchange now. I'd probably be happy with 3 million just to be done with it.

It does seem selfish but I do find things much improved...... attitude to be included.

I'm sorry for this thread. In reality I've been drinking all day and giving up on the Pattaya dream has reduced my depression by at least 90%, as they say, don't worry about things you can't control ????

hence giving up on Pattaya return

I haven't given up on Pattaya but have red carded it for 2 years with a hopeful return in the Autumn of 2022 by which time I'd "expect" to have seen a vaccine up and running with a high take up

No vaccine becoming available in general then frankly Thailand is over

They certainly dont need the Tourist Dollar to balance the books what with the huge (massive in fact) increase in FGR since the Pandemic started and borders closed

'better times'? it's never been better here in LOS and in Pattaya in particular. Very pleasant place now it's not maxed out with people.

6 million, for a condo, utter madness.

I’m in the same situation as you, bought my condo a year before the China virus, now stuck in Australia. No sense in giving up on Thailand though, as Thai border will be open long before we’re allowed to leave our Australian prison, so it’s not as if we can go anywhere else in the world either. I’ve been predicting 2023 Oz border opening ever since the insanity started in March, the time will go fast, and heaps of TV and computer games to catch up on.

Throw up some details on the apartment, love me a fire sale and would happily add another to my portfolio.

When you can return, you will not need to sell your condo, because you will be here, and can stay here.  ????

Now is probably a good time for bargain hunters.

I think it's highly ironic that Australia is keeping everyone locked up again, especially when you consider how it started out as a prison colony ????

Has not everyone heard this is the New Normal......

I think Thailand is now even opening up the prisons to welcome the tourist back....Go straight from immigration to a prison cell.....

I went to Pattaya yesterday, left today.  Shocking how hard it is to get a decent bite to eat after 10 pm.  Most of the street food I saw would cause prison riots, where I come from.  At best case, you can buy safer versions of the same disgusting <deleted> at 7-11.  Ever wonder why there are hundreds of trannies in Patts, when Jomtien is known for being the gay area?  My hotel room just sucked big time..basically smelled like a dirty jockstrap.  First time in 8 years that I had to contact  Agoada and shorten my stay.  I think if they were more forthcoming about the nationalities of the owner and manager, everyone would be better off.  I wonder who decided that Patts would get all the old beer from the entire country?  I'll be ready for pennies on the dollar.  So many of the condos are in suck locations.  Looks like once you get 1 km from the beach, prices are lower than the likes of Nonthaburi and Patum Thani.

I can answer your loaded question about so called trannies.

Assuming you're talking mostly about "ladyboy" sex workers, the audience for them is overwhelmingly hetero identified men.

Gay men are (in general) not sexually attracted to women or men presenting as women.

Got it now dude?

i would argue they aren't hetero but are within the Q group in LGBTQ. Hetero men generally are not attracted to men trying to present as women

No vaccine (and likely even with it - given unlikely 100% effective), means covid goes around, the small percentage who are vulnerable get sick and/or die from it, and life continues as before.  Treatments are improving, so even among the vulnerable, the death-rate is falling.

Contrast and compare the danger of this virus to what our parents / grandparents dealt with in terms of dangerous communicable-diseases.  They didn't "lock down" and destroy their lives and economies, because that would have been insane.  Many watched their children die of those diseases - yet still, they accepted this was a part of life.

Today, a small group of covid-vulnerable, powerful people are holding entire nations' peoples hostage, due to not wanting to isolate themselves, while everyone else can "go out and play."  "It's not fair," they say, as they stomp their feet, and destroy millions of lives.

You will have to out-bid the Chinese on it.

That beer has probably been sitting there, stockpiled, since the covid-lockdown.  And not as if they paid to air-con it all that time, either.

They should have learned from the US Navy. They always brought beer whenever we deployed and could be at sea with no port call for over 3 months. No cold storage then either, the brewer added formaldehyde to keep it fresh. :wai:

Yes much better in Pattaya now. No coaches and hordes of Chinese. Clean(er) beaches. Enough bars and restaurants/agogos open. Great cheap hotel deals. Wish it would stay like this.

many on TV post fake and try to make out they are in Thailand when they are actually not. I've caught out a few TV members .... they know who they are.
