Can't say I care, my thoughts are I'll be dead soon.

I consider myself lucky, if I'd been born earlier I'd have hit WW2, if I'd been born later I'd have missed cheap international travel.

Bottom line is that you hit the sweet spot in more ways than one ... ????

Ultimately the future will be what we make of it .. for good or for bad ...

Actually Westerners are statistically low spenders...

Furthermore looking at tourist's origination as per August 2019 stats, 4.81 percent were Europeans, 0.68 percent Americans, and 0.30 percent from down under, i.e. AUS and NZ. Russians were 2.90 percent.

Westerner's "with real money to spend" are statistically not that important.

Majority was China with 57.80 percent, AEC with 9.73, and remaining Asia with 15.49 percent.

High end villa buyers, and renters, are not specific Westerners, and it's also a different market than mass tourism and "all inclusive tours".

That graph is "by region" not by country.  Maybe the big money is going to Vietnam.  ????

I know this place turns dollar for Vietnam.

However, "westerners" can be easily traced per region, and all of them in the low end. I furthermore specified little deeper stats about numbers of tourists in the text; i.e. 4.81 percent Europeans that are the lowest spenders, whilst the 7.80 percent Chinese are the highest spenders, in average 50 percent more per day than Europeans. My point is that European tourists are relative not that important anymore in to total view...????

And the Chinese like to gamble.  Right?  Does Thailand have casinos?  No.

Wake up an smell the casino chips.

Just based on today's experience, I'd say things are going to get very ugly soon... Today, I've had 2 people, one Filipina and one Caucasian ask me for money AND a Thai guy, fxxxed out of his head, try to take my drink and botlle from my table in an open air restaurant.

The young are oblivious to all of this, with their heads stuck in the phones mommy and daddy paid for, but to see adults having to bed for money and try to steal drinks from tables, that's when you know things are getting tough.

Where is this going to end?

This is going to end in a warlike generation conflict in the West.

Not in Thailand due to their strong family ties.

Family ties?  Really?  Do you forget Yellow Shirt v Red Shirt?  Do you forget the Thai Army shot and killed around 90 Thai citizens?

No. But to me it looks like the grassroot Red Shirts from the Issan are winning now. At least in Pattaya they do.

Who controls the guns, has the power.

Do you think they will give up power easily here?

What difference would it make?

Do you believe the Red Shirts would tear down the EEC just to pamper a rice scheme where they can't compete with India?

However my fear is for the future ,now there are 7 billion on the planet ,with many of the poorer ones trying to get to the richer nations ,by 2050 there will be 12 billion ,mainly in those poorer regions .I think it is going to be a very different world from the one we have inhabited. What are your thoughts, what do you think it will be like?

I think 12 billion people will have a weight more than the planet can take. It will be a total free fall. I´m free falling, as Tom Petty once sang.

Makes no difference to me, I am not a Thai citizen, and I am single.  I have my "Plan B" well in place if / when Thailand becomes unliveable for foreigners, which it was moving towards, pre Covid.

It's already changing, but in a few years I can see no illegal immigrants refugees being permitted to enter western countries by whatever means necessary. They'll have to stay at home and sort their own countries out.

If current governments won't do it, IMO right wing governments will be elected that will.

Could be fabulous, if Thomas Piketty got more followers amongst the people in Power. Couldn't imagine a better place than Thailand to implement his "inheritance for all" scheme.

Then go ahead. Although I doubt that greedy Western women would like to share anything with a Thai lady or her family.

I'm not in it anymore, I already have my herital rights, tax rights and social security rights cleared in Germany. It was expensive enough, and I had to leave all my assets there - full of hatred. And many hate me in Germany, so this is some kind of balance.

If they start a New Green Deal in the West tomorrow, then God bless them. But if they just want to expropriate me again, just for the sake of their children which are not mine, then they find out I'm one of their toughest enemies.

My case is settled, and dare Western women to bring it up again.

A wise man. Wish I had been as wise as you.

It's the foreigners that have emotional, financial, or business ties to Thailand, that may end up not having a happy time in the future, Covid aside.

If life continues on as it is, I see absolutely nothing to believe that life will get better, and everything to believe that it is getting worse.

I'm optimistic. Guess the half-empty glass will be filling up again.

As an old guy my future is death.

I'll let you know if it's bad or fabulous when I get there, there's a chance it might be nothing.

Emotions are transient, you can easily find substitutes (women/children/pets all easily replaced).

If you've invested heavily in Thailand, I really don't have much sympathy, this place was always a place to lose money.

I can find happiness wherever I am, reasonable health, internet, alcohol and drugs makes my happiness easier.

It's not even as though people have not been warned that Thailand is not a good place to invest more than one can walk away from. That's been a common theme as long as I've been going to LOS.

I guess people lose their common sense when they pass immigration- I certainly did when I thought it was a good idea to get married to a Thai girl. I knew better, but the sex was fantastic till I got married.

Out of your list of things to be happy about, I only have the internet.
