Have to remember not all expats living in Thailand are sitting on retirement visa or work permits.

This new proposed system will allow me to fly in and out for work.Even if quarantine is required At this stage I would rather that than open the gates putting my family at risk.

Someone who is retired and plans to stay for at least a couple of months. I agree there may not be enough of them to revive tourism but probably enough to help a little. I am one of them, I hope they finally decide on this for real, but I am not holding my breath.

 

I'll believe it when I actually get an entry stamp at a Thai airport somewhere, not before given the number of false starts they've had so far.

Those that will come in under those terms will be expats desperate to get back to their own homes or rented ones for which they are still paying and who were out of the country before the travel ban. These folk are going to have a mosquito`s wing beat affect on tourism which won't actually be measurable even with an electron microscope. But I guess they will have to go through this to find out for themselves as there does not seem to be one among them that have a clue about what actually consittutes "tourism" in Thailand. There are far easier places to go for actual tourists elsewhere and until Thailand lowers the bar to those levels tourism is doomed in the Kingdom. We will just have to watch them get there slowly, its going to be like watching paint dry!

Correct.So you go for a month.But first 2 weeks you have to stay in expencive hotel for 2 weeks.i dont think so.What is happening.The big money people who are close and linked to government.Are looking to make money from the few tourist that will maybe come.These comments by thai government are always about trying to apease the certain few that they think matter.

Thanks but no thanks we will be leaving our Thailand home empty this year.

For us it is not even the quarantine but the risk you want to subject us to.

 

Flying on planes with Thai's returning untested after asking us to jump thru many hoops to prove we

are covid free before flight... you then want us to sit next to untested because their Thai? No Thanks

 

Secondly your track record of so many foreigners turning positive 12 days into quarantine tells us you possibly

also have problems at the AQH or airport/transport staff etc. If not originally infected on the flight with untested mentioned earlier.

 

Maybe See you in 2021-2022..... maybe ????

I really don't think the government understands what is happening. Hotels are going bankrupt and many have been mothballed. A quick walk down any tourist area ( Chaweng in Samui is a good example ) and boarded up shops, hotels, restaurants, massage shops, tattoo parlors.... all slowly falling apart with no maintenance to buildings, with the streets and sidewalks becoming overgrown with opportunistic plants...

 

When the authorities suddenly decide they want tourists back, the infrastructure will have gone. Who will want to go to a resort with 3 hotels and 2 restaurants in the middle of an overgrown slum ?????

There is a demand for this as evidenced by the fact that all of the ASQ hotels are fully booked, but this is obviously guys trying to get home to their families/jobs, once allowed there is no doubt there will be a similar demand from retirees trying to get back home. 

 

After the pent-up demand is met, it's hard to see too many people without ties to Thailand coming if the restrictions stay as they currently are.

 

I'd actually be interested in this scheme as a way I can get back into Thailand if I go to visit my family in the UK (it will be 12 months in October since I've seen them), I don't mind the 2 weeks isolation there as I can self-isolate at Mum & Dads house & I don't even mind the 3 weeks in Phuket when I get back... But it's all the messing around getting CV19 tests, CoE, F2F, Covid Insurance etc... that's puts me off...

 

But even more than that, there's the risk that I might pick-up CV19 on the way & pass it on to my Mum (71) & Dad (76), so even somebody like me who has a good reason for being interested in it & has the time/funds to be able to do it, wouldn't do it until a Vaccine is available.

The article is from Bloomberg. It's probably based on what is now old news as the goalposts seem to move every few hours. Latest I saw was that the so called Phuket Model is anticipating the grand total of 300 tourists before the end of 2020!

1. commercial flight (not repatriation)

2. reasonable ASQ rates

3. 90 day visa extensible to 270 days

 

I'm ok with PCR test. I'm flexible on insurance. I would quarantine to protect the family regardless.

 

My job is gone so I have some time. Looking to get back to the girlfriend and family.

I still can’t understand why people who are healthy and in good shape are so scared of the virus are you afraid of every other way to die.  Every day is a <deleted> shoot.  If I had diabetes and weighed 350 pounds or breathing problems or ??? I’d be very cautious.  But the rest of us don’t need a mask and should keep on keepin on.  IMO

the head of tourism in spain said something similar about benidorm after the brits left

thailand really needs to start saving some "furniture" or there will be no infastructure left when they finally do reopen

While Thailand may be a beautiful place to visit for a holiday, foreigners, blue collar and most white collar workers are not provided with enough annual vacation time to come to Thailand and spend 14 days in quarantine, then maybe have a week of actual holiday and then return to their home country and face another 14 days in quarantine.  Until something can be done to eliminate the need for quarantining very few tourists can be expected to visit Thailand.  My guess is that little will happen until a vaccine is in widespread use and has been proven effective for 12-15 months or more.

Tourists travel on average 10 to 14 days alined with their breaks from work.. A few will come to get back to families etc but reality is we will be waiting for a vaccine before borders will truly open.

How many times have I heard this mumbo jumbo it’s not going to happen the government are more than happy for it not to happen and if it did who with a brain would come to spend the first 14 days locked up in a hotel room at their own expense as well as pay a disgusting amount of money for a $100,000 Covid insurance policy and I haven't even mentioned fit to fly certificates LOL

I'm not scared of it myself & may even have already had it (in Singapore in Feb I came down with bad flu like symptoms & had a fever for 3 days... Hadn't had anything but a mild cough in the 11.5 years I lived there) BUT what I am scared of is passing it on to my septuagenarian parents (one of whom does have diabetes & both are a little overweight but by no means unhealthily so for their age).
