Ex-Deputy Commerce Minister Banyin pleads guilty to kidnap and murder

Thailand’s former Deputy Commerce Minister Banyin Tangpakorn has reversed his not guilty plea and confessed to the kidnapping and murder of the brother of a judge who presided over a fraud trial in which he and three other people were accused of falsifying documents to transfer to their ownership shares, worth about 228 million baht, which belonged to a wealthy contractor.

The contractor, Mr. Chuwong sae Tang, died in a suspicious car accident while travelling with Mr. Banyin in the same vehicle.

Banyin and five other people are on trial, at the Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases, on nine charges related to the abduction and murder of Mr. Veerachai Sakuntaprasert. It is alleged that they attempted to use Veerachai as a hostage to bargain for a lenient sentence in the share transfer case.  Ms. Panida did not bow to Banyin’s demand and Veerachai was later killed and his remains destroyed to cover up the crime. Banyin was found guilty and sentenced to eight years in prison.

What a pathetic sentence!  The presiding judge could have given a tougher sentence.

Maybe he likes his brother  . . . . ????

8 years is not much indeed, but its not for kidnapping and murder its his previous crime (not sure if they proved the murder in that case). Do note that this was again a politician who committed a crime. How can a country progress with people like this at the helm.

Which murder?

First wife in "car crash"?

Chuwong Sae Tang in "car crash"?

Oh, the judge's brother in case #2.

He'll be out in two years. If that.

still,  8 years in a Thai prison would be like a lifetime of hell.  It's better than him getting off scott free.

I highly doubt that he will be doing hard time..

8 years for kidnap and murder(s)? So the original sentence was 16 years.. with the 50% discount for pleading guilty,

Buddhists at least should understand why executing criminals is a very bad idea. That aside revenge murder is still murder.

let's not forget:

He was not only a Thai Government Minister, but before that a Police Colonel.

So, he has connections and information. So, he gets a light sentence. And so he will get a Pardon in a few years...

And that's the gist of justice.

It is a very poorly written article but the 8 year sentence is related to the earlier share transfer case.

He is still under trial for the kidnap/murder of Veerachai (brother of judge on share transfer case), and has now just confessed.

So, please no more 'only 8 years' for murder' comments for the time being.

As he is caught bang to rights and confessed, I hope he gets a very hefty sentence.

Keep fictional religion out of it.

Murder is murder. Someone is dead. Why should the killer be walking the streets again EVER?  He, and every murderer gave up the right to life when they killed!  DEATH is the only  relevant punishment.

Interesting political structure in this country; one big wig admits kidnapping and murder.

Another executive still sits ministerial as well and claims that a four kilogrammes of flour "heist" was misinterpreted by Australian authorities as drugs - for which they booked him four years.

Another blessing in Thailand's political arena traded billions of Thai Baht in shares he owned via one of their domestic helpers in order to avoid a more than ten digit amount in taxation .........

It does not concern me but I wonder, if Thai people are served to their best interest with such "interesting" characters at the helm of the Land - your call!

Now that he has pleaded guilty and did not resist, he shall be free and will repent by becoming a monk.
