Loei to be promoted as new world-class tourism destination

Tourism authorities are planning to market Loei province as a world-class destination, as the government works on stimulating the country’s tourism sector.

The Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration (Dasta) said Loei possesses a diversity of natural resources, culture and ways of life that can be presented as part of a “Leisure in Loei” promotion.

The province’s safety measures, cleanliness and sustainable tourist attractions also meet the Global Sustainable Tourism Criteria, Dasta said.

Loei’s Chiang Khan district already welcomes more than a million visitors every year and is expected to be added to the Sustainable Destinations Top 100 list next year.

Meanwhile, in a bid to revive the tourism industry and woo tourists in the fallout of Covid-19, the Tourism and Sports Ministry will next month launch an “Explore Unseen Thailand” promotion, which will focus on lesser known provinces like Loei.

Keep out from here! Nothing to see!

It is a good idea to plan ahead and get Loei into a world class international tourist venue.

It is a pity that there are no world class toursts (who actually bring money into Thailand) allowed to visit Thailand, probably until next year. Even then if nothing changes they will have to spend 2 weeks in a government sponsored ASQ at their own expense before they are allowed to get out to visit Loei.

This is just a country fighting for survive and improve their economy... Good luck with that. BTW.. Nice place to visit.

Somehow "world class" just doesn't cut it for attracting tourists.

TAT needs to start promoting off planet, perhaps even build landing pads for alien spacecraft

If you build it, they will come.... and if they don't, well "stimulated" economy

It is better to get the back packers back.  They are volume customers.  They purchase local products and are more likely to go to places off the beaten path.  They need little in the way of facilities.  Let tourists on motorcycles enter Thailand.  Many young people buy motorcycles to see Indochina, but are unable to go to Thailand.

I don't think Chiang Khan has an airport.  If it does, it's super small.  The main city isn't that close.  Looking at a map, there is only one road there that can handle traffic.

"World Class" is BKK, Pattaya, and Phuket.

Number 4 is exponentially down the list.

If people run out of money from the aforementioned, they go to CM.

They should pick Udon Thani or Khon Kaen.

I've seen "World Class Standard" stuff before........5555555555555555

Loei is a very nice town to visit, exploring the mostly rural beautiful province on a rented motorcycle is tops.  Khun Ming (so called because it somewhat resembles the famous Chinese mountain) is a nice day-trip.  Chiang-Khan with its wooden houses next to the Mekong is very pittoresque and romantic, and attracts many honeymooners.  Quite touristy but without the excesses and nice to discover the surroundings.  Yes, an obvious and good pick for 'Unseen Thailand'.

Obviously Loei province is not World Class, and I sincerely hope it will never become a Pattaya or Phuket from the North.

Correct, but Loei has and is currently served by Thai Air Asia, and Nok Air:-

Yes, forget Paris, Prague, The Maldives, Seychelles or Bali, let's go to Loei for our honeymoon. You gotta laugh.

How many world class destinations do they need? They already have Pattaya!

Surin could follow this lead....there's swampy lake and a few broken down bars.....honeymooners would love it there!

Bai loei, bai loei, bai loei

Sure it will be boring, because wherever you go you always bring yourself...

We are going up near there next Wed on the current government initiative. Sounds like another initiative coming shortly which would explain why the current one has not been extended. Look forward to the details and just hope it is as generous as the current arrangement.

I went there as a young backpacker in 1987. Had a beautiful hotel room right on the river for next to nothing. Those were the days. Had a great view of Laos where it was still next to impossible to get a visa.

There's an elephant roundup festival in Surin every year. Tourists will love it. And they will love the farms and wats around Surin.

I was in Laos for honeymoon in 2014. No problem to get a visa on the Thai side of the Mekong river.

I don't know if it is still happening but when I was there Air Asia had a mini-bus connection from the airport to Chiang Khan ..it seemed to be very popular..

Pretty sure ALL of Thailand will be unseen by 40 million tourists soon

This government is schizophrenic. They promote a part of the country as a “world class” tourist destination while denying entry to all but a tiny trickle of international tourists.

Let me in and I would be happy to spend time and money in Loei.
