PHUKET: Any foreigners filing their applications with Phuket Immigration to extend their stay today (Sept 28) will not be fined for overstay, following the ‘visa amnesty’ expiring on Saturday (Sept 26), Phuket Immigration has confirmed.

However, any foreigners who arrive at the office tomorrow (Sept 29) or later to file their applications will be fined B500 a day for overstay, Lt Col Worapol Panpetch, Inspector at Phuket Immigration, told The Phuket News this morning.

If it happens should be announced after normal Tuesday cabinet meeting (tomorrow).

It was very clear that the deadline was 26th September. Either you complied, like any sensible person would have done, or you didn't, in which case you deserve the fines. The immigration have been extremely lenient during these times to help.

So it seems that mighty organ of the global media industry, the Bangkok Herald, might have got its story about the amnesty extension wrong after all. Quelle surprise, lol.

You put your left hand in, your right hand in, in out in out and shake it all about - hokey cokey for another month . . .

but it helps if each hand knows what the other one's doing.

Did anyone see the announcement today at noon?  Was supposed to be broadcast live on TV. Wonder what was said.

It's like being at the train station wondering which one will come in first? Will it be the Amnesty train or will it be the overstay train? Maybe you should leave before one gets there?

No point waiting at the "Train Station"
Best to be at the airport waiting for a flight home.
Not worth this risk IMO

There won't be any fines. Immigration did their job and the government introduced the necessary amnesty. Pretty clear.

Well.. They got my 1900 baht last week and I'm 'safe' for another month.

If only they'd allow processing of short term to long stay visa within Thailand.. I'd just apply for a 1 year extension based on marriage and relax a little.

There is another thread where they said coppers are out today asking for passports.

Gotta get that fine while it's available!

All these stories make me so sad does it really matter in these difficult time whether or not a few remaining foreigners stay or leave Thailand. What about the forgotten poor Thais reliant upon tourism now without any means to support them selves or their Children.

Yeah, read that somewhere too. People on overstay should be extremely careful at the moment when they're out and about. IDC Prison  is not a pretty place.

It never was "very clear". Actually, it is still not clear.

I was just reading on another news source that was published about 3 hours ago, saying that an Immigration Bureau spokesman said that he  had no knowledge of this so called  leaked document showing that the amnesty will be extended until Oct. 31.
So, someone has got this news very wrong.

More flip flopping.
