A friend's car has now got grey milky marks o we his bonnet. I tried T cutting and polishing to no avail...Googled and it seems is a problem....any ideas apart from a respray?

May sound daft, but spray a little WD40 on a spot a bit out of site, leave it a few minutes then wipe off, it will not hurt good paint...

That stuff works wonders on many things so will try, read 50/50 vinigar water may do also...and if left in sun, dissapear without anything. The cover I had for my car was never a problem but I think this was a cheap Lazada one....was amazed what damage they can do.

Might try color sanding and buffing, but if it's clear coat it might be tough. Tri a spot under the hood errr bonnet first...

Cutting and polishing by hand did nothing but using a buffer may work

Yep sounds like the clear coat has absorbed moisture causing the milky marks.

Park it in the sun for a few days and see if i goes away.

It is not normal to have clear coat under the hood errr bonnet.

Clear coat thickness is normally determined by measuring the 'paint' thickness on a panel and the subtracting the measured 'paint' thickness under the bonnet/hood.

Don't sand!

You will need a DA Polisher and suitable pads and polish 'compound'. Really best to take it to someone who knows ie a detailer. I can recommend you one, a friend, who place is on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road.

Just get it resprayed. My last white Tuna had some small dents on the front of Bonnet. So took it in they repaired the dents and resprayed it, looked like new when they had finished. Cost 2.000bht.

No dents with the OP's problem, try the easy stuff first before doing any painting, painting can be construed as accident damage.......

I put in that it had dents as well as respray so he could see how cheap it was. Also said that it looked like new. So how cant it be construed as accident damage??? By the time he buggers about trying to sort the thing out, just as cheap and a lot less aggro to respray. But maybe you cant work that out.

A motor trader or even me can spot a panel change of paint....So could be accident damage or even be noticeable....You first try the easy stuff in this case....????

Hard to hand paint and acheive the same orange peel as an OEM robot painter.

I would pick it straight away and instantly think what damage was there to require it to be repainted.

Now lets get this correct the paint has gone milky. Will it come out more than likely not. Your suggestion of WD 40 (Good idea) will cost 160bht I brought one yesterday. Then he has tried other products like T/Cut/polish they haven't worked. Cost for those ??? and now he's left with leaving it in the sun.

Just go to a good paint repair shop like I have, and ley out 2.000bht and it'll be sorted. No aggro and in the end just as cheap.

You won't have it but you cant see any of the paint jobs I've had on any of the three of my Lumps, had been part resprayed. Had a front door one done as well as bonnet on my last Tuna perfect. As said looked like new. Suggest you get yourself into the modern era and see what they can do now.

Toyotas don't have orange peel on their paint work. But if your referring to a Ford that might be a different thing.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't your Vigo some 14/5 years old. I will admit that then they did have a problem with the plastic bits but not any more. Go have a look in a Toyota show room at new lumps, you might educate yourself.

Now if you want to see GREAT/FAB Orange peel then pop into a Ford showroom and you'll see it on every car Plastic bits or not.

Sunbeam, the Vigo G had a perfect paint finish except the plastic bumper, it had orange peel. Now as I know you don't know much about motoring stuff, plastic parts use a different primer to form adhesion, that has been around for many a year, but paint finish, whether on metal or plastic is down to the painter OR the robot setup. ????

Secondly, don't assume that because YOU think visually your touch ups are OK that others may think otherwise, especially those with a keen eye for sussing accident damage.

As usual you don't read my post, you just find any excuse to stick in another post. Now if you had read my post you would have seen that I did say that the early Toyota Plastic parts did have a rough finish on them. I wouldn't say they were orange peel just dull. I did have a Vigo about the same age as your old one. That's if you can remember.

I was referring to the newish (around 10 years old) Toyota Cars they don't have any orange peel/dullness on the plastic parts. My last Tuna was great. As I said go look.

There's nothing wrong with my eyes. I can also pick out a bad repair/paint job from MT away.

N/B The place I use doesn't do touch up jobs they will only paint a full panel. They use modern paints and their colour match is spot on. Even on the new white metallic paint Toyota put on the Tunas and other models. (That isn't white compared to bright white it's a light grey) There something else you have learnt.

Where did you get dents removed and the bonnet resprayed like new for 2,000 baht?

Even better, I love it when the OE paint is that perfect makes it sooo much easier to see that Somchai has been blowing his filthy paint pot over it...  Cause lest be honest, any paint work that costs Bt.2000 has not been done by some high end automotive paint expert.

At a local repair shop in K.P.Phet that is recommended by my insurance Company. Just had well a few months ago my front bumper resprayed. But that was 2.500bht due to the amount of masking.

D/M Have just taken a snap of lump that Somchai resprayed. So you can see all the overspray & paint drips. By the way the front bumper is the bit under the bonnet/hood with lights in it.

Just because you have to pay farrang prices some of us don't.

It's a bit grubby at present as I haven't had it cleaned for some weeks. But you'll get the general idea.

Yes it does. As said it's recommended by Aioi insurance company. Have taken a snap of same, you cant see them but they have 3 spray booths at the rear where they do all the paint work. I can assure you they do a top notch job. Have just asked the wife and I think they are called SOMCHAI Bodge it and Op it.

D/M your getting like TA, he never believes anything. I told him once what I pay for 8lt of Full Syn oil and a filter at Toyotas and he said I was telling porkies, even demanded at copy of my bill. I duly put that in and he still didn't believe me.

I think it was because he was paying more for much the same thing at his fab B/Q place.

Sorry about the poor lighting but I cant make it any better at 5.15pm. Suggest you come here with your light and see for yourself. If you can find any damage I'll pay all your expenses +++ extras.
