ThailandRyan
Supertramp could not have put it any better regarding Thailand's Government and the STV, when they sang the Logical Song When I was young, it seemed that life was so wonderful A miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical And all the birds in the trees, well they'd be singing so happily Oh joyfully, playfully watching me But then they send me away to teach me how to be sensible Logical, oh responsible, practical And they showed me a world where I could be so dependable Oh clinical, oh intellectual, cynical There are times when all the world's asleep The questions run too deep For such a simple man Won't you please, please tell me what we've learned I know it sounds absurd Please tell me who I am Thailand's Government and TAT have been asleep at the wheel and can not see through the rose tinted glasses they are wearing. They see the world different than the rest of the world does and never will understand the Farang point of view, because in their views we are below them in every aspect.

Popular Post Farangstyle
Seems there is a CIRCUS one can see in Thailand after all and its called Thai Government. Nothing short of reopening the border to people from low Covid-19 nations like Australia , New Zealand, Singapore and the like will save this great nation from Total Financial Collapse. By all means test people for Covid-19 before they board a flight to Bangkok. And when they land in Thailand. And if need be quarantine them for a few days until the test results come back. Or quarantine them for 7 days. Not 14. We just wont return for months. Maybe give the option for people to quarantine in their own condo's or houses with their Thai Families. Even throw them in jail if they do not stay home for the period stipulated. Or impose HUGE FINES for non compliance and place a mark on their passports/ traveler information. Then after they have done their quarantine and returned yet another negative Covid-19 test issue them with a certificate so they can then show they are indeed covid-19 free. I for one can assure you all that if allowed to quarantine with my wife in Korat I would not move from our house until my quarantine period was done and I again tested negative. People require more options. Thailand faces a greater threat of Covid-19 from illegal border crossings from Myanmar than it ever will from Australia , New Zelund or Singapore. Give us a reason to travel to Thailand without the hurdles and the Circus. Open up or the country will be on its knees for much much longer. 2

I ran into a group of about 10 last night on my nightly walk around the Wireless road, Langsuan Area. They were two families, and had come to Bangkok from Chiang Mai where they have been living since Covid came to visit. They have moved down here and are staying in a hotel on Langsuan, and were out looking at new places to move to here in Bangkok. As the one father, who spoke perfect English said "There are better deals down here and cheaper rents, better places to eat, more upscale restaurants, and the air is better". I had to laugh. There are many Chinese that live in Thailand, so I do not doubt your seeing them. I just do not believe they have just arrived under the cover of darkness as you may believe.
Megascott
When the corrupt Government makes up schemes they always involve some form of bribery by hospitality companies to provide them with customers. Previously tested non-Covid passengers must spend a minimum of 30,000thb in Quarantine at a short list of Hotels, previously chosen by the Government officials, "Insurance" must be acquired to provide 100,000usd in coverage, 500,000thb must be in deposit in a Thai bank before application. Does anyone but me see the possibilities of Corrupt practices here? Who in their right mind thought this list of requirements was even achievable, let alone something a tourist would even try to do to come to Thailand? To me, its a list of nearly impossible requirements insuring you DON'T have any tourists coming to Thailand.

Thaidude
Whoever is their boss was basically having a trouble free life because of the good works done by the previous government or people incharge who made the country THE destination in the eyes of the world. Now these bunch of lunatics don't know how to do that which clearly shows their incompetence. Either they should resign or someone should fire them and bring in new staff who is smart enough and knows how to read english as they can obviously notice so much outrage online. I don't know what a normal tourist would need to pay but for business people, retirees and married foreigners its virtually impossible (Unless you are a millionaire) For example a friend of mine who owns a business in Thailand... has a valid one year work permit and correct visa, he owns a condo here and his car and Ducati motorbike is sitting gathering dust waiting for him (unless they've been stolen) BUT he wont be coming here any time soon as he would need to payout approximately 3 Million Baht after jumping through all the hoops with certificates, medical checkups, quarantine and not to mention an overpriced flight! I think its obvious now that the "people" running Thailand do not want foreigners here anymore. I don't think the motivation for all this is to actually prevent foreigners coming to Thailand, rather it is simply greed, a clumsy attempt to climb onto the financial bandwagon which they perceive as being ridden by the foreign visitor. They are obsessed by the idea of "high spending", deep pockets", and "high value". Those involved in the (doomed) attempt to resurrect the tourist industry imagine that all foreigners are thus described. Those who have worked in and developed the (now moribund) tourist industry could have told them that it was anything but so, but they are gone, scattered, and anyway have no voice. Instead some businesses and businessmen fondly (and wrongly) imagined that they could recreate a tourist industry, and make a very large amount of money out of it. No doubt they payed a lot of money (sorry I should have said "exerted much influence") to persuade the government to allow them to set up and operate the charter flight, medical testing, quarantine facilities and approved resort locations. They imagined, in an astonishing act of naivity, that all they would have to do was to sit back and collect the money from the tourists, and no doubt divert a significant proportion of that income to those they"influenced". They now find, that because so many of them had leapt aboard the bandwagon, all asking ridiculous prices, and a fragmented yet overly authoritarian government machine has been unable to create a coherent system to manage any potential visitors, (or even returning expat residents like your friend), that no-one is prepared to come. One must chuckle, albeit darkly, at the utter mess their greed and incompetence has made of a project which could, possibly, have worked. People like your friend without doubt inject a fair amount of money, use businesses and create employment in the communities in which they have settled. That money however does not go to those who have the ear (and pockets) of the government, so they are ignored. Thailand they will tell you, is after all for the Thais, albeit the very small number at the top of the economic and social pile. They have got their fingers burnt with this one, and struck a probably fatal blow to the already grievously injured tourist industry. The future - watch Vietnam, Malaysia and Sri Lanka over the next couple of years. Edited October 13, 2020 by herfiehandbag

As I have said, remove all the 14 days quarantine, insurance requirements etc and they will come. Just do a Covid test in their home country. That should be sufficient before giving approval to allow them to board the plane. This is the only practical way. Which is almost certainly what Thailand's competitors for the tourist market in this part of the world, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and Malaysia will do. Stargeezr
I am not really surprised to learn that TAT made up a name list and the rest was fiction. After all, just how many Chinese do you think gets 1 month off for vacation in a year. If you maybe own a large business and are doing well financially, maybe you and your family can take that much time off per year. I doubt that very many companies in China are so generous to give many if at all 1 month off per year. Two weeks vacation leave is likely the best to expect except for top managers, and executives. When I talked to some tourists from China, they were all on a 10 day tour, and had flown from China to BKK then buses to Pattaya for their first night in country. The young fellow in his early 20s said he was lucky to be working for his uncle, or he would not have had that much time off to travel with his parents and siblings. Even in Western countries, when you have not worked for a company for over 10 years, you do not get off more than 3 weeks per year. STV, should be used for Special Thai Vaccine, maybe a few people will be lucky enough to get one of those in the next year. Geezer
