Thai PM asks opposition MPs if they know what will happen if he steps down

Why would anybody think that he is the one in charge ?

He is following orders just like all of them do.

The real question to answer is: Who is really giving the orders ?

[It is not any politician in any country, that's for sure ! Not in Thailand or in any other country for this matter.]

And so now the reality of why the protestors marched to where they went last night.  The one person calling the shots supported by the current Government regime led by the PM, but who is the man behind the Curtain, it surely is not the Wizard of OZ.

  • So if he resigns he becomes caretaker PM with no opposition until he forms a new cabinet, which could be never.   That's one hell of a constitution you wrote for yourself there Uncle Tuu.

Gen Khun Prayut Chan O Cha won't be going anywhere. He's staying put thankfully.  imo

Careful MPR's. It's a trick question.

Can he have a coup against himself?

Absurd I know. Almost like a president saying he could pardon himself.

Wait they already did pardon themselves

Regardless of how much power he really wields, he needs to go. He’s the face of everything that’s wrong with the country right now.

He will have to step down. It’s just a matter of how long it takes.

Come on people you-all are not children use your brains......Democrat-Republican.....Labour-Conservative.......Or the Thai parties.....They are one in the same.....They wear different hats but underneath they are all the same......The new boss will be the same as the old boss.....

The new boss will throw the masses a few bones to show he is different then its back to business as usual...

Make new , real election and Prayut + other clown work there before new coverment start! Like one month after election! That its how it go in "normal" world! Biggest party get PM and start to build capinet whit others!

The issue is an unelected Senate that also needs to be removed as well.  No matter what Parliament votes are on reconciliation and Charter modifications, the current Senate setup is all in Prayut's back pocket.  He stacked the deck when they went into power to ensure that he would remain in power for a very long time, unless another Coup occurred.  However, to ensure a Coup could not occur from within Bangkok the top two military units were put under the command of one specific person who truly is the one that needs modifications made to the powerbase he enjoys. Just my opinion from an outside view looking in.

Will you provide a detailed apology OP when what you say and have been saying evaporates into thin air, and Poof he and his government are washed away in a tide of happiness.  Happiness that will be restored to the people when they can decide on things for themselves with a true democracy.

Open the puppet cupboard, pick another one, the old one jets off to overseas penthouse for a while, jobs right. :coffee1:

They need to set up 30 day Snap elections and open it all up again.  It is all that it should take to get another Government in place.  They do not need to set up election committees to review the election process or who can run for a specific election.  The banning of prior elected officials needs to be looked at, and really viewed as nothing more than Political hit jobs, one side against another.  Almost sounds like back home, except they do not get banned.  If what they did was illegal then they go to jail.  Where else can you be an elected official and still be a convicted felon, yes, my home country.

Looking at how many thumbs down your comments get (figuratively speaking) me thinks your opinion isn't worth much.

Prayut has to go. I know it will be kicking and screaming as it won't be about the people it will be about him and his ego. But if this country has any chance of moving forward, he has to go now.

Very reminiscent of Trump....'only I can fix it"

Why was I not told about this before?

You mean to say whoever is in power will just be more of the same? No change in accountability? No betterment at all?

I'll be sure to inform the protesters.

He said that, if he resigns, the whole Cabinet will leave the office automatically, in accordance with Section 167 of the Constitution, but he and his Cabinet will stay on, in an acting capacity, until there is a new Cabinet.

Yes, Mr. Prayuth, that is EXACTLY what would happen. You are a very bright man. I'm in awe. So... when?

The junta still has the upper hand because they really hamstrung future forward. Now i read in the BP that they are going to press crimininal chargers against Thananthorn for the loans saying its a gift and broke the rules. A loan is a loan. He made it up as a loan but the courts are against him. I really do hate the junta. The only decent party (and that is why they fear it the PTP they can still use Thaksin as scare tactic but on future forward there was no dirt).

Disqusting.

100% in agreement.  The other thing he is facing is called double jeopardy.  He was already stripped of being and MP, then his Party was banned, now they want to push the knife in deeper as they believe he is the root cause of the problems they face with the protestors.  They think that by chopping off the head it will stop.  Sorry to inform Prayut and his cronies that they have climbed into the lions den and there are many more taking the places of those that fall before them.  Then, they also want to take away the 191 million Baht loan and and use it themselves, what depraved individuals the ECC are, also backed by the current government.

What do you mean with Cronies? I have been telling you over and over again. Some in charge are members of the same families that have been around in politics for more than 50 years. They are the real cronies, they are the ones that keep the PM in his seat. The PM is just a puppet unlike just after the coup when he, indeed, was in charge.

At a rough guess, I'd say everybody will be pretty happy! :jap:

No he will be replaced by another idiot and we will start all over again. It is like a never ending boxing match. This round will go to x the next round will go to Y until they have a winner. A couple fights later he will lose his title and a new champion will start all over again. Only the promoters (politically families) will gain. And like in boxing a lot of them have  successful comebacks  for a while.

Make sure advance payments are made on all the huge infrastructure projects, take out the brown envelopes, pass a law to absolve you for any mistakes that you may have made whilst in office and give yourself a big pension. Then Uncle Tu all the head aches of running the country will be gone.

Grrovy Constitution ya got there. 23rd time is a charm.

Heads I win, tails the people lose.

If only Section 171 could be used?

The Constitution du Jour was made to be bullet-proof, although changes made AFTER the public referendum raise questions best left unaddressed.

He has already passed a law to absolve himself and all of his cabinet, for all and any mistakes that they may have made while in office, and of course he also had more legislation passed to ensure he could stay in office for 20 years and enjoy the spoils of being a dictator/coup leader. I think he is more in line with Fidel Castro now.

Responding to a call from Pheu Thai MP for Chiang Mai, Mr. Chulapant Amornvivat, for him to show responsibility by resigning, the Prime Minister asked opposition MPs whether they know what will happen if he does step down

A caveat and a bluff all in one sentence.

The words of a general who believes the country cant survive without him ! The trump of SE Asia

He will return happiness to the people.
