Lets not forget that over 70,000,000 Americans still voted for him - after experiencing him for 4 years. Almost unbelievable.

  • Trump golfs and stirs up hatred whilst Americans die in their thousands. Some weird sort of legacy!

I feel that there are much better voting models in place in many countries.

The current model was designed in the days of horse and buggy and completely different communications and vastly smaller voter numbers of less diverse backgrounds. However that discussion is for another thread

I am not a Biden fan and I am not American. But I see the "attraction" from him. He is boring, steady, middle ground. In a way I think that is what the USA needs now. Compared to i.e. Bernie, Biden will have a chance to unite America - if he tries.

I don't think it's in anyone's power to unite the US after 4 years of having a toxic troll "president" spreading divisive filth on a daily basis.

I’m not so sure all of them necessarily voted for Trump, but probably much more anti-democrat. Many Republicans seem to be of the opinion that the country will go to hell in a handbag and become a socialist/communist utopia when the Democrats get their hands on the presidency. But many Republicans (or Americans in general) also seem to lack even the most basic understanding of what socialism is.

Very true. When you e.g. have lots of people who believe that one can be both a democrat and a communist at the same time then you know the US educational system has "issues".

Whats more unbelievable is that the Democrats couldn't find someone better than Biden.

I suspect a lot of those voted along party lines rather than for Trump or saw voting for the alternative even more depressing.

Biden received the most votes of any Presidents ever.

He was chosen as the candidate to beat Trump and he’s done exactly that.

The right man for the job.

Exactly and in my opinion and many others Biden was probably the only democratic candidate that would have beaten 45.

I agree that there are others that I would have preferred more but without winning that's academic.

Or understand that programs like Social Security and Medicare are socialistic. Remember the tea party sign that read "keep the government's hands off my Medicare"?

"The Untied States..."  Yep.  Sounds like a concise and reasonable summary since Trump became president.

President Trump is like a Alabama tick[very hard to remove] mainly when he feels he has been cheated on. This has to be resolved no matter what party you belong to. Fair elections is for the good of all.

Not keeping up with the play old chap.

Just about all of the results are in and they show a resounding victory for Biden.

The vast majority of trumps legal challenges have been thrown out as "unworthy of consideration/spurious/lacking facts" etc.

The Federal Election Commission stated that this was one of the fairest/most secure elections in American history.

So as far as rational people are concerned the claims about "stealing the election" and other such like, have been proven to be false and just a figment of the imagination of a cult leader and his followers.

Learn to live with it.

That there was 'widespread voter fraud' is as true as the press sec claiming there were 'more than a MILLION' at Saturday's march (11,666 by DC Park Service estimate at peak).

Not an ounce of proof has been produced re 'fraud', and certainly not enough to overturn a shellacking in both the Electoral College and the popular vote. Twitter has been working overtime flagging most of 45's Tweets, as he has continually tossed out things known to be false.

Fix the gerrymandering, voter suppression bring in the voting rights act and and the division will fix itself.

It's quite ironic the US has one of the biggest military machines on the planet, without Americans realizing what it is.

A person joins the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines or whatever. From then on, that person is trained at taxpayer expense. He/she gets sick or needs dental treatment, the military looks after them. Many can rotate out of there with a military pension and then get further employment in private industry, with training again on the taxpayer dime. They get killed or wounded as part of their job, the military comes along.

I'm not criticizing the system, it's a good one. Having said that, if someone can explain the difference to me between that and socialist governance, I'm all ears.

At least the new president should try. And it seems like Biden wants to try. Let's look and see.

Sure but my point is that it was a lot closer than anyone expected. A better candidate with better policies would probably have thrashed the man-child.

By getting even more than the most votes a candidate has ever received?!

I suggest you give up on repeating the pre-election Trump Campaign talking points that they hoped, in vain, would deter people voting for Biden.

The election is over, Biden won it.

It is what it is.

So more Americans vote Republican?

As you know, the answer is no.

Unfortunately, under the US system of government (developed by white men, many of them slave owners and prosperous merchants, aspiring to create some kind of ideal democratic republic while making compromises to the self-serving people in power) the US Constitution gives significant power to the states.

Since the majority of Democrats are in a minority of states, it will be difficult for them to ever control the Senate, and the Senate has a great deal of power.  The votes of the Senators of the states of  Wyoming, North and South Dakota and Alaska (total population less than 4 million) have four times the weight of the votes of the Senators from California (population 37 million).

Contrary to those who claim this shows the wisdom of the Founding Fathers, this is not what was intended.  Four old economy states dependent on commodities and government largess should not have four times the influence at the federal level than a state with a diverse population and diverse economy composed of commodities (mining, energy and agriculture), trade, technology, services, etc.

There is a similar imbalance in the power to elect the President between these largely empty states with narrow self-serving interests and the more populous states with broader interests.

It is worth noting that in "assisting" other nations to implement democracy, the US has never pushed them to implement a constitution similar to our "pretty good for a first cut" of constitution.  The weaknesses of our own government are recognized by our own people, and are not forced on others.

I doubt that many admire the electoral college system. Very undemocratic. Anyway, thanks to Trump, its been shown for what it is, a pale imitation of democracy.

For years, America has started many wars in the name of democracy. In future the rest of the world can point to this election and shout, "Put your own house in order first".

Social Security takes the money from current contributors to pay current retirees.  That's socialism.

Unless you are good enough to die well before your time, you will receive much more from Social Security than the $100k you paid in.
