Considering visiting CM in near future and just curious if there's any need for extra concern? We will obviously be taking all the usual precautions...facemasks, using hand sanitizer, washing hands frequently, avoiding close contact with others. Has there been any specific local warnings recently?

No baiting whatsoever. Thanks for the info, it's what I wanted to hear. I guess my concern arises from CM and a couple of other places we'd like to visit being near the Myanmar border, where I believe there are covid outbreaks, so it crossed my mind perhaps there has been some local warnings that I hadn't heard about. Anyway, thanks again for your reply.

Not true -there was a mystery case involving an Indian who had been here the whole time down Krabi way a couple of weeks back. There were a handful before that; put it this way, the Thai government stopped providing a figure on how many days there had been no community cases after day 101 when the first community case popped up - that was the DJ in Bangkok if I recall. 

There hasn't been a case in Chiang Mai for roughly 200 days now. 

 

Chiang Mai Data Center provides all the local stats. 

There seems to be very little covid in Thailand. It only seems to get picked up when people depart Thailand and arrive somewhere else.  A korean person departed recently and tested positive on arrival in Korea. Japan has identified infected people arriving from Thailand.  Do they get infected on the aircraft? Myanmar has reported the same but how good is their screening? 

 

Also the Indian man who had been in Thailand for months and recently tested positive. So officially no local covid in Thailand except for these regular "anomalies" .

What about the French woman who came down with it? Not sure but I think it might had been in Samui. Recalling the article (unless I had forgotten the details) she came into the country, tested negative, went into the 14 day quarantine, came out of quarantine and tested negative again, went shopping about and then came down sick a few days later, and tested positive.

 

So if testing is not valid or the incubation period is longer than 14 days then she contacted it locally somewhere, however it was not in CM.

The bottom line is, nobody appears to be severely sick or dying from covid in Thailand. As to whether it is active and being passed around, as there is no mass testing, apart from out of country arrivals, who could say?

Yes, various sources are reporting this and it's the talk of the day.

10am this morning at Central Festival Sansai.  Just left there.  It is closed all day due to Covid being detected inside on a member of staff.  And the 118 from Sansai is totally blocked.   There were no police stopping  cars from entering.  They are turning them away inside the grounds of Central Festival.

Interesting that the first response to my question was to dump on me and accuse me of baiting...yet the very damn thing that concerned me and prompted me to make the post has happened. 

Thankfully there have been no positive cases amongst the contacts who were tested, so it is still a case of an imported case not a local outbreak. As the Public Health Ministry has expressly said there will not be a lockdown in CM we can all continue to wear our masks, check in at all venues by using the app or signing the book and live as normal a life as possible.

 

The OP must understand that TV is a refuge for many bitter & twisted minds and simply filter out these idiots, because responding to them is precisely what they want as it makes them feel important.

Stay away until the situation resolves itself. The idiot infected woman that came back from Myanmar has had over 300 identified contacts in Chiang Mai, the next two weeks will tell the story. Worst case scenario CM goes back into lockdown.

Any update regarding this story? Rumours abound here in Bangkok that Chiang Mai is about to enter lockdown and anyone who leaves that province for another is being asked to do a 14 day quarantine period. 
 

Again, just rumours but the situation seems to be heading south rather rapidly.. 

You have to look at who is telling you there is or isn't any local covid contraction personally I wouldn't trust anyone in a Thai authority to tell me that water is wet yet alone a pandemic????
