Strict preventive measures have been implemented in the Chiang Mai walking street after a local resident tested positive for Covid-19 on Saturday.

On Sunday, all tourists and retailers were seen wearing facemasks, while Chiang Mai Municipality officials were at hand to monitor the situation.

Meanwhile, tourists said they had confidence in the screening methods employed at the walking street to contain the spread of the disease.

The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration reported five new cases on Saturday, including a local infection. The local patient is a 29-year-old Chiang Mai resident.

Dr Sophon Iamsirithaworn, director of the Division of Communicable Disease, said investigation by related authorities showed the patient had worked in Myanmar from October 24 to November 23.

How did she get pass the guard doing the fever test at Central Festival.

All these 'measures' don't seem to be effective if it is not done properly.

You don't always get a fever with COVID-19. It's just one of many possible symptoms.

I thought I read that the two girls already had symptoms while in Myanmar. They must have taken Panadol then to reduce the fever.

Of course they must have.  There are only several hundred other possibilities.

Those temperature guns are completely useless - they always show significantly lower temperature than actual. She could easily have a fever and get by. And that's not even accounting for medication like ibuprofen which will lower your temperature enough to pass any check.
