What should I do in Pattaya?

What happened, did you run out of money staying in that top end guesthouse called Sutus court? Not surprised you were the only ones staying there, its a complete dump, plenty of better hotels around with deals.

Never question anyone's pocket. Last time we were there we stayed in Centara Grand Mirage in Club rooms.

We were there for a Birthday bash. That's why we decided to stay in Sutus Court 1. So called right in the middle of things. Wouldn't need the car. Having arrived we could see strait away what it was like. Some have said it's buzzing, the only things that was buzzing were the flies around the drains. So a car trip to find some life was required. Sadly we never found any. Mostly dark Soi's with everything, well 8/90% closed down. That's why we decided to move on.

And by the way there's nothing wrong with Sutus Court 1. Nice big, clean, rooms. Pleasant staff. And for a Birthday bash just the thing. Next time if you don't know please don't just post Tosh.

You are just negative, we can see that, maybe you left and are bitter. Pattaya has many things to offer that's the beauty of it, not just bars and agogos

There's probably more going on in Udon Thani than in Pattaya.

Now excuse me while I go get my hard hat...

Infection wise or what?

Udon looked like Pattaya in lockdown last time I was there.... but one kinda has to live in a place to know where it is at. Pattaya may be a bit dark and dismal in some areas but a lot action can be found. I expect there are quite a few more GGBs and MPs and bars open now in Pattaya than Udon... on Buakhao+ nearby alone. And it is certainly easier to get about.

If you look at todays news from the Pattaya mayor. You will see that he has canceled all new year celebration. That's on the internet Thai news. In English. It's still open as of today, but no fireworks ETC. Said it would be impossible to control crowds. There are other bits. That is on U/Tube fabulous 103fm. News flash. And before peeps say it's B/S go look.

Thanks but they still have not closed the beach and it is still a break from Pathum Thani and BKK

It's like no one even reads past the first sentence in the OP's post.

He's probably bringing his g/f, so presumably not looking for P4P fun and not looking to hang around LK Metro with a bunch of mooches that are 1 viagra away from pauper's ceremony at the local temple.

He's looking for "the best restaurant", the "best selection of beers" and the "best English breakfast". (Most of those are debateable as one man's slop is another man's banquet.)

He's staying at the Dusit, not some fleabag, pay by the hour flop on Soi 6.

He has a car so he probably won't be needing baht buses to get to Jomtien (and I'm guessing he won't be flying from Bangkok to U-Tapao either).

As I said before, I'm not a beer drinker so I can't advise on that. Not a fan of the "English Breakfast" either. TripAdvisor list the "top 10 English Pubs in Pattaya" (and gives you 48 choices) - https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurants-g293919-c7-Pattaya_Chonburi_Province.html

One of the things I've always liked about Pattaya (and the general area around it) is that there is pretty much something for everyone, regardless of what you are into.
Some people live to go to the beach and do "water stuff" (Sailing, snorkelling, diving, wind/kite surfing, jet skis).
Some like the "tourist attractions" like the Crocodile Farm, Elephant ranch, Dolphinarium, Magical Frost of Siam, Nong Nooch Gardens, etc.
Some like the shopping (Central Festival, Central Marina, Terminal 21, The Avenue, etc) or the wide variety of dining options.
Some like the nightlife (discos, beer bars, go-gos, karaokes).
Some may like "ATV adventures" or paintball or bunji jumping or bowling or go karts or water parks.

The hard part is trying to suggest things for a complete stranger to do when he/she/they are here, especially when you don't know what they are into. There are so many options beyond "sitting in a beer bar on LK Metro wishing you could afford to go into a go-go bar and barfine one of the hot dancers".
(Luckily the soi is already named otherwise, in Thai style, they'd probably call it "Soi Geriatric Ward".)

Of course, if the OP has specific interests he could always google those and see if there are any in the area and then ask if anyone has any experience with them. Some people here have probably visited some of the "touristy" attractions around the city outside of Walking Street and Soi 6.

Sheesh, I've been here for years and haven't gone to half the "tourist" attractions around the city. Far less than half actually. It seems almost every time I ride around the city (or Darkside) I spot some attraction I never noticed before. Most hold little interest for me but might be just the thing someone else is looking for.

If you knew what they were interested in of course.

Geez, you need to unbuckle and enjoy life as it is in Pattaya....even without a beer......????????????????

Having a girlfriend in tow is just half the fun! ????????????????????????????????

Can't imagine why it would not be... although the view is somewhat spoiled thanks to the Tulip group and The Waterfront Derelict Tower.

I will throw in a plug for Ramayana Water Park, especially of your girl likes the water. It's open Friday-Sunday and Thai Holidays...and tickets are half price (even for us farangs). Most restaurants are open and would welcome your business...as you have a car and can get out of the farang ghettos, I'm sure your girl would love the Instagramable Rain Forest Cafe and Chocolate Factory both just a few minutes down Sukhumvit Road from central Pattaya. Come and have a great time and support the local travel industry.

Pattaya's a great place for a threesome, true. So many opportunities. Girls with lesser experience feel freer to enjoy that in another city where they're not known, too.

Was in Pattaya 5 days ago. Soi Bakauo was reasonably busy as was 2nd road.

I would stay around here if you want some choices without driving everytime you go out.

Robin hood was pretty decent for a brekkie. There is a German brewery next door. There are a few craft places about now days.

To be honest I would Google your questions and then watch YouTube videos of any things you like the look of as then you get a realish life view of things rather than photos or people's personal opinions

Kerryd's suggestions are good.  Add Siracha Tiger Zoo, but if you are a member of PETA probably don't go.

thaisabai where is Koh Lan?  Assume you mean Koh Larn.

Also, Koh Chang is 5 hours away and Samet about 3 with driving and ferry.

sorry, yes I meant Koh Larn (been here too long, already used to the Thais not pronouncing the "r")

and yes, Koh Chang is 5 hours away and Samet 3 hours. But if you have plenty time these places may just be worth visiting

The coffee shop sit down area was closed months ago (apparently illegal), however to the left they moved there which no one bothers with. So they killed a busy successful area kinda like they did with khao san road

And be sure and check the dates on those YouTubes.

Although not nearly as sophisticated as down south, there's a reason why investment hasn't flat-lined up here during the pandemic. It's like any other provincial capital with all the attractions that go with that albeit more cultural or natural than chrome poles and rub and tug shops. Spoiled for choice for new hotels in and around the west-side epicenter of dining and drinking known as UD Town.

Admittedly my earlier comment was a tad tongue in cheek but since you brought up Covid, the first two or three confirmed cases linked to the Samut Sakhon seafood market cluster have been announced here a few hours ago.

With rumours of lockdowns one has to again be wary of getting stuck on an island.... or deliberately relocating to one for a Covid free break!

Well if you do get here I'd very much like to read a brief trip report and your honest thoughts, a very nice restaurant that I use fairly frequently is Casa Pascal on 2nd road, the set menu ( Schlemmer menu) with free flow, good quality wine is excellent value for money at 690 Baht, or go Ala Carte, high end quality dining. Google it

For the best high end dining, if money is no object, you can't beat Cafe des Amis. For a decent steak near Soi Buakhao, Beefeater.

Cafe des Amis is excellent.  If the OP has a car, try The Glass House in NaJomtien.  Actually, they have a new place called the Cave.  It's really cool.  Both are right on the beach, right on the sand.  Great Thai seafood, great service.

https://g.page/cave-beach-club?share

For beer, try Hops on Beach Road.  For sunset, Infiniti at the InterCon is great with very good happy hour specials and healthy pours.

Or, if you want to be with the hi so Bangkok crowd, try Sky Gallery.  Right on the sea is also Birds and Bees.  A very cool place with it's own garden for growing food.

If you are around on Wednesdays, great jazz at Malibrew.

Not far from you is the Beach Club at The Pullman, and The Glass House Silver.  The latter has excellent food.

Stanley at Sandbar by the Sea has good food and great music.  If you are in the Jomtien area.

Went a couple of weeks ago with the wife. Neither of us rated the food and quite scruffy during the cold light of day. Didn't appreciate having to pay for parking either.

I agree.  I only go there for the music.  Which use to be quite good.

An amateur Freddy Mercury or Elton John impersonator? Not for me.

Plenty of other bands perform there.  The Elton John guy isn't very good.  The Freddy Mercury guy is amazing.  If you like that.  He played to a full house back in the UK night after night.  Huge auditorium.  But like you, not my cup of tea.

Did you ever see Helmut play there with Jason on keyboards?  Quite good.

If I were bringing my wife and niece (presumably Thai) and wanted music, I would take them to The Stones House on Walking Street. Thai bands singing Thai songs and when the Bangkok Weekenders are in town the place really rocks. I've heard enough Thai male vocalists murdering Western songs to last me a lifetime.

Cafe des Amis is good i agree, i think it's reasonably priced too.

I used to go to Mantra, in the hotel ( forget which one ) right at the end of beach road opposite walking street, it was also good, tad more pricey but worth it.

In both places a couple can eat for <5K ( so long as you don't include wine )

Enjoy!

Or Steak and Co although i'm not sure if they survived this year, they used to have specials on each day if you went at certain times, good well presented food.

I should visit Walking Street now.  I gave up on that place years ago.  Just didn't like it.  I also didn't like many of the bands on WS.  As you say, same ol' songs.

If you are down towards Bang Saray, this place is new, has fantastic food, and a pretty good house band.  But it's fantastic when the Bangkok musicians come down.  Best of the best in Thailand for jazz.
