Chief of CIB leads raid at Chaeng Wattana casino - 89 gamblers arrested including foreigners

Chief of the Central Investigation Bureau Lt-Gen Torsak "Big Tor" Sukwimol led a group of senior officers including the chief of the Thung Song Hong station in northern Bangkok to Soi 14 Chaeng Wattana.

 

There they busted an illegal casino operating in a single story, walled premises. 

 

There were four gambling tables - 2 seua mangkorn, one high-low and one gam thua, all popular Thai betting games. 

 

Eighty nine gamblers were arrested - 75 Thais and 14 foreigners. 

 

Lt-Gen Torsak said that the police had received information that a previously closed establishment had reopened. 

 

He said he was acting on orders from PM Prayuth Chan-ocha to root out illegal gambling operations. 

 

People were charged with gambling and violating the emergency decree for even though they were wearing masks, the close quarters at which they were gathered represented a chance of spreading Covid-19. 

 

Thaivisa notes that the bust comes hot on the heels of an outbreak of the virus centered on a casino in Rayong last week. That one resulted in the transfer to clerical duties of a senior policeman pending an investigation. 

 

Daily News reported that Thung Song Hong chief Pol Col Krissaphon Petchsotsin took part in the raid on his patch on Monday.

It is always astonishing that gamblers can find such locations but the police not. An unexplainable miracle...

I suspect the 14 'foreigners' were not farang.

 

I also see that in the photo the majority of players appear to be females. This is borne out in the local dens where I live, daytime is almost exclusively frequented by females.

I wonder what the odds are for a foreigner knowing where to find a gambling den are compared to the local BIB knowing where to go?

So did they test them all for Covid-19 or just take them in and then release them.  Has to be asked if the two gambling locations prior to this one had covid spread from them.
