The router is in an upstairs office and the signal in the downstairs sitting room has always been poor to non-existent. My internet provider has offered me a special router at approx Thb 3500.

I am exploring the possibility of using a signal booster and to that end would like recommendations as to which one to acquire.

Don't these systems use the "earth" wire which most Thai houses don't have?

The product from post above (TP-Link AV600) doesn't have an earth connector. Two pole only.

That is why I asked the "Earth wire" question!

Does anyone have an answer?

These devices do not need earth wiring to function. That's why these devices don't have an earth pin.

My house is only 2 1/2 years old and has a full live, neutral and earth system.

So how do they function?

Powerline networking: All in the walls

An alternative to re-broadcasting existing Wi-Fi signal is to use powerline networking instead. The beauty of powerline networking is that it doesn’t involve wireless technology at all. Popular in Europe, powerline networking gear can fill networking gaps by moving the data over your home’s power cables that live behind its walls. All you need is an AC outlet at each end.

It might seem like magic, but powerline networking piggybacks its data signal on top of your home’s 120-volt alternating current that runs through the home’s electrical infrastructure that snakes through your house, making every AC outlet fair game. The best powerline systems top out at up to 2Gbps of bandwidth and start at about $40. They generally plug right into a wall outlet but the bulky powerline devices can cover up adjacent wall outlets and some systems offer a replacement outlet as compensation.

Check out "Mesh Systems" before spending money.  I set up a mesh system in my sisters narrow 4 story townhouse and it works incredibly well.  There are several on Lazada (TP Link, Tenda) for under B2000.  I used a Google system for her house but I don't think available here.

Well since they don't have an earth pin, as shown in the picture provided by KhunBenq, and also visible in the link I provided, obviously not over the earth wire

Tried one from Invade, it didn't work properly. Sent it back and Thomas told me that they are very temperamental.

So I ask again, how do they work if not over the earth wire.?

Didn't work very well in my mate's duplex condo in Kuala Lumpur either. Someone suggested maybe too much rebar in the pillars? The mesh system he got seems to work better though.

I had the opposite problem not getting enough boost upstairs ran a LAN cable from  router to my computer.  If you have an extra router you can do that and get wifi downstairs

I am unfamiliar with a "Mesh System". Please describe it or point me at a link which will educate me.

"Mesh WiFi or Whole Home WiFi systems consists of a main router that connects directly to your modem, and a series of satellite modules, or nodes, placed around your house for full WiFi coverage. They are all part of a single wireless network and share the same SSID and password, unlike traditional WiFi routers."
