The atmosphere at the Bangkok Bus Terminal (Chatuchak) or Mo Chit 2 this year is different from previous years due to the new wave of Covid-19. There is none of the usual crowding and throbbing with activity.

People have been gradually returning to the capital from their home provinces since Sunday after a long break to celebrate New Year with their families.

The bus terminals are uncharacteristically quiet. The usual congestion at Mo Chit 2 terminal is missing. People who return or enter Mo Chit 2 bus terminal must check their temperature and get a hand sanitizer to wash their hands.

Transport Co said there would be approximately 65,000-70,000 passengers returning to Bangkok, down 20-30 per cent compared to the previous year. So far, no passenger problems have been reported during the trips and there have been no cases of infections.

The company said it is taking strict measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19 by setting up screening points and providing disinfectant alcohol gel to passengers, registering passengers through the ThaiChana application to keep a record of travel history and speeding up investigations in suspected cases of infections.

So now, weeks of outbreaks, lockdowns, curfews and schools closed because they didn't lockdown Samut Sakhon when they had their market outbreak.

Just maybe, if we make the lockdown tough enough & shut it all down & for long enough, we might get back to just a few outbreaks here & there. But we'll never feel as safe as we did on December 1.

Generalissimo really dropped the ball over new year. Make up for it for CNY & Songkran.

...and that is the only way track, trace and isolate can work.....once the numbers get too big you are swamped and it becomes a pointless task.

They should be more worried as to if they are going to make it home alive on the bus first worry about Covid when your home good luck for both journeys ????

The horses were out of the barn by the time they knew they had a problem. What they needed to lock down was the border, with proper screening of the workers coming in.

That may be true.  Or maybe they needed to test people all along to understand that this surge has been going on a long time.

Hard to tell...
