During the insurrection and invasion of The Capitol Building, insurgents can be heard shouting "Hang (VP) Pence".

no chance of removal before inauguration, but it doesn't end there.  impeachment proceedings can continue after regime change.  too late to excise the malignancy, but one of the penalties upon conviction is lifetime prohibition from holding any office under the united states.

The last part is probably why they are doing this?

To keep Trump away for good.

I'm not so sure they manage to get enough votes though.

Is it 2/3 votes they need?

Some of the republicans that might have plans next election, could ruin their chance by voting for this.

Makes me think some well placed folks in trumps administration left the congress woefully unprotected it will be found out just who left them open to the attempted coup it’s gonna hit the fan bigley when they do find out

They won't. Because, just like the Capitol security breach wasn't exactly a "failure," these on going prosecutions are only window-dressing. Trump has his tentacles everywhere, what do people think he's been doing last 4yrs? For additional proof, look at what DoJ is NOT going to do next (abc news.)

politicians are political animals.  they'll wait to see which way the winds are blowing to commit.

investigations are just beginning, in regards to the storming of the capitol and trump's many "perfect" phone calls.

as more facts come out, many may find that breaking with trump may be their most secure path to re-election.

You assume that following the outraged of the past week, Republicans themselves would not want to put an end to Trump ever holding office again.

In response to people toppling confederate statues, Trump signed an executive order mandating longer prison sentences for people damaging Federal property.

Enjoy.

The only problem with that is he did it in June and would be only in effect for 6 months.

Not so fast.  In fact, it is possible for the Senate to try Trump on articles of impeachment before Jan. 20.  Although the Senate is now in recess, if the Dems. can round up 51 votes they can march into the Senate chamber and announce that, a quorum having been established the Senate is now in session.  A majority could be made up of the 48 Dem senators plus the two new Dem senators from GA once the runoff elections have been certified by the Secretary of State of GA, plus at least one Republican senator.  So far, at least three Republican senators have declared themselves in favor of removing Trump: Romney, Murkowski, and Toomey.  The majority in the new Senate session can elect Schumer as Majority Leader who then puts on the agenda the trial of the President under articles of impeachment.

It is indeed possible that 17 Republican votes could be found to convict Trump since the Republican party leadership would be happy to be rid of him, but they would have to be willing to face the rage of the Trumpites, which is less certain.

This path will only be tried, however, in the unlikely event that Chuck Schumer grows a pair.

Do you have a link for that DoJ announcement?  It's not on their announcement webpage.

And yes, that policy is likely to remain in effect until Jan. 20.

Merrick will be AG soon.  And Biden isn't going to stop him from doing investigations.  Especially if significant info comes to light over the next few weeks during the investigations that have begun.

So you missed Biden’s election, confirmation and announcements on his appointees.

I'm asking about the DoJ announcement not to charge incitement of insurrection, which has nothing to do with Biden.

I’ll see your poor attempt at semantics and raise you 18 U.S. Code § 2385

So you disagree that you used the wrong word "coup"..That's OK, I understand....:cowboy:

But, I would call your word "overkill", or "exaggerating".....:sorry:

No I do not agree.

Trump incited domestic terrorists within his support base in an attempt to prevent the certification of Biden’s election win and thereby prevent the lawfully elected candidate taking office. By violent means to overthrow the election of the incoming President.

Coup!

So now they are terrorists, even the pensioners with their signs, the fruit cake with horns and paint...........????

So why ask me when my post you responded to sergers to the  forthcoming change of management ?!

It was an unintended consequence of the quotation mechanism, which I assume you would be sharp enough to catch.
