How do farangs get covid vaccinations in Thailand ?

"Several private hospitals are reported to rush to order Covid-19 vaccines to accommodate the wealthy.  A number of private hospitals such as the Bangkok Dusit Medical Services (BDMS), Bangkok Chain Hospital Plc (BCH), Thonburi Healthcare Group (THG), Bumrungrad Hospital Plc (BH) and Vibhavadi Medical Center Plc (VIBHA). However, these hospitals cannot import Covid-19 vaccines directly but must seek orders with agencies or representatives of vaccine producers.

Pijit Viriyamettakul, managing director of VIBHA, said VIBHA had pre-ordered 50,000-60,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccines from Moderna. It expects the vaccines to arrive in February 2021 and must be approved by the Food and Drug Administration before giving jabs to the general public.

It plans to charge 6,000-10,000 baht per person, Pijit said.

This week, Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said the government is not blocking the private sector from importing a Covid-19 vaccine but he wants them to follow the safety review process in every step."

 

Personally I would do vax before the third wave. March is too late to get for the second wave. Vax will be constantly modified, depending on new strains. Takes some 6 weeks to tweak them and make in quantity

Do you really believe the bat soup ( or soap opera) story? In Wuhan are class 4 laboratories that do "researches" with high risk viruses, including the Coronavirus. A coincidence? I don't think so.

The Thai government via Immigration will inform you when you'll be require to scrounge up a covid jabby.  By that point any government hospital would probably have the stocks in order to provide the lowest cost jab.

I'm so glad there are 69 million people in front of me all desperately wanting the jab.  Basic economics and supply and demand.  By the time they get close to the end of that line the world will be floating in covid vaccines that they can't give away.  Vaccine production will be at a peak as demand drops right along with the price.

Good.  More for me.  When finally forced to take a jab (or find an agent) I'll go with the Chinese or Russian vaccines that no other Westerners want.

If you are a foreign man married to a Thai woman, even with kids - the nationalist Thai government only sees you as a national security risk and otherwise would rather that you weren't even in Thailand.  You'll get no assistance from that direction.  You're on your own Mr. foreign man regardless of your marital status.

The entire issue of keeping the prices low and the availability high is that experts are saying that virtually everyone needs a shot in order to obtain herd immunity.  So the vaccination price will be a function of public health policy as it pertains to SARS-Cov-2.  You can't meet a goal of addressing a 'public health emergency' by making unaffordable vaccines.  That beats the purpose.

However with that said, there will be a group of 'wealthier than normal' individuals who will be fearful enough to pay top prices to obtain vaccines as soon as they can get them almost regardless of the price.  And no doubt there will be providers of vaccines offering them at exorbitant prices to meet that particular supply niche as, this is Thailand.  Money and status opens doors to those who have it.

I'll go for the cheap Chinese or Russia jab and wait for 5 years or so to watch how the rich lab rats fare with their mRna shots.  I sorta want to see the a minimum of five years of data on humans before I step into line for the new tech.  I don't need New Tech.  I'm comfortable with older low priced phones, older low priced computers, and older low price vaccination tech.

When I thought my visa was not going to be renewed I was prepared to pay 6,750 baht for a covid test and about 15,000 for a flight, so if there is a western vaccine (pfizer/moderna/Astra-Zeneca) available for around 10,000 baht then I would surely be willing to pay for it.

As in most other countries I think the Thai government should be buying supplies to vaccinate its people for free - starting with the most vulnerable.

As long as that is happening and I am not taking a vaccine which should have gone to someone else in more need, then I would be prepared to pay

The problem is that when you read ten different articles/ researches on it, you get 25 different opinions.

 

   Well, I do not trust any Hindustani, nor Pakistani news, but the bat soup story sounds too weak to be true.

I often cannot comprehend why a lot of foreigners living in Thailand don't get private health cover, i.e. unless they are too old that cover is out of the question for them, i.e. the providers won't cover them or it's far too expensive for them to have cover.

 

A few days a go I received an email from my health care provider that they would cover the cost for the vaccination if the government here didn't provide it for free, not that I expected them too, that said, you get what you pay for, pay nothing, leave yourself wide open, pay for private health insurance cover and you have a good chance of them picking up the tab for whatever it is you have, I say that because most believe health providers try and opt out of paying.

 

For under 200 baht a day, I would rather take my chances with a reputable insurance provider for peace of mind and choice of hospital, doctors and specialists.

 

Seriously I mean how much is a vaccination going to put you out, 5-10k baht, so be it, one would imagine your life is far more valuable than that if you don't have private health cover that is offering to pick up the tab.

no. money is not a big problem so you are barking up the wrong tree that way.

not at all sure that is the case.  They are being tested extensively, on their own citizens. ????
