Featured Replies

If your condos pool opens or does not open next week please post....Our condo management closes down the pool with lightning speed but seems just fine with dragging out a looong reopening......I plan to make a fuss if this happens again.....

Was there a specific mention in the relaxations of swimming pools being allowed to reopen? If so, I must have missed it, perhaps you could post a link to it here so I can send it on to the committee in our village. Thanks.

‘My’ condo pool re-opened after the first lockdown last year and remained open since.

Your lucky.... I am almost certain most of big condos locked down their pools a 2nd time....

Reopened a week back but limited number of people allowed at the same time. On the side note, the rules state that you have to wear a mask also... written so badly it reads like you have to wear a mask when swimming and keep 2 metres apart. I'd like to see that in practice ????

Ours has not been closed this time around.....central Bangkok......they did limit numbers for a couple weeks otherwise business as usual.

Did you just write that?

If I open Facebook, will I see it?

articles change every minute on Facebook and once you've read them they disappear, best if you join the many groups or follow people who publish this stuff

I look at a big pool every day. But I have not been using it for years. Just checked the temperature with one of these infrared thermometers from my balcony. 24 degrees. Icy.

Chonburi Public Relations department has confirmed the easing restrictions throughout the province, including in Pattaya.

Gyms, fitness centres, massage parlours, cinemas, water parks and swimming pools, including those at condominiums can re-open,  as can almost all other venues that had previously been ordered closed.

24 degrees, icy? I wish I had access to such a pool. I'd be in it in a, well - a splash! That's perfect swimming temperature for me.

This is what I call cold! I've seen Ukrainians doing this in the Dnieper River in Kiev. Brrr!

I don't care about the temperature. The benefits of being in the water outweigh the inconvenience of the initial cold. Your body soon gets used to it. You just have to learn to deal with the initial shock. I do that with complete immersion immediately. Not that I would recommend it to everyone. You have to learn your limitations and then push them outwards over time. But do not say no. Saying no is limiting yourself. Limiting your strength and immunity. Go for it! 23! 22!

Yes but I live in Pattaya and do it differently.... I hadn't realized 22 degC was so cold until I tried to  swim.... straight out again.

It was never closed. No mention in of it in published restrictions.

I've had a chat with the committee and they've agreed that the pool will reopen on Monday. I think they've told the manager.

Apparently, when the lockdown was announced a month ago, we actually received a phone call from somebody in Pattaya City Hall telling us that our village swimming pool is regarded as public and so must be closed. While it's true that we do allow outsiders to use it for 100 Baht, very few of them ever do so and it would have been simple to stop that and make it private, but apparently the manager thinks that orders from City Hall <Basil Fawlty faux German accent> must be obeyed at all times and at all costs, jahowl! </Basil Fawlty faux German accent>

My pool is freezing cold, at least that's how it feels.  Haven't done anything more than put a toe into it for 2 months.

That whole public/private thing was started last lockdown, but was not really the case. I'm on the committee at my condo, and we called City Hall during both lockdowns, and were instructed to close the pool. Public means shared across households, which is the case in a condo. And while you deride the manager for following the law, it's the manager and the committee that would face the fines and possible jail terms, not you.

I have no respect for these people closing a pool when we can just allow people to swim 1 by 1.

They all have no brain and people who support them also.

Who will control the one by one? Are you happy to pay for the administration? Security guard to stand by the pool? A queue or booked appointments? How will you coordinate that throughout the province?

You will gain respect from us when you come up with fully described proposals. If they are any good, I will pass them on to my friends in government. They need to be fully costed mind you.

When pool is open at both my condos, a security guard is ALWAYS there ! so as you see, it's not so difficult when not living in a zhithole...

Yes pass anything you want to your imaginary government friends hahahahaha, but if they were able to understand anything they would already take better decisions !

Ok...so there is a security guard. Now it is his job to control entry to the pool. How does he do that? How will the next person know when the pool is free? Do they just wait at the gate or book an appointment? Does the security guard go over to remind them that their time is up and there is someone waiting? How does he manage this alongside his other duties?

Easy to make simplistic statements. But you've come up short on details.

My friends have been running things in Pattaya for quite some time.
