Kushner, Berkowitz nominated for Nobel Peace Prize for Israel deals

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Former White House senior adviser Jared Kushner and his deputy, Avi Berkowitz, were nominated on Sunday for the Nobel Peace Prize for their role in negotiating four normalization deals between Israel and Arab nations known as the "Abraham Accords."

 

Nominating the pair of former deputies to then-President Donald Trump was American attorney Alan Dershowitz, who was eligible to do so in his capacity as a professor emeritus of Harvard Law School.

 

Kushner, who is Trump's son-in-law, and Berkowitz, who was the Middle East envoy, were key figures in negotiating deals between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sudan and Morocco.

 

The deals were announced in a four-month span between mid-August and mid-December and were the most significant diplomatic breakthroughs in the Middle East in 25 years as the region girds for a prolonged confrontation with Iran.

 

Kushner said in a statement he was honored to be nominated for the prize, which will be awarded in October.

 

President Joe Biden's administration is expected to review all national security deals reached during the Trump administration, including arms packages for the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.

 

There have been some complaints from lawmakers about the Morocco deal because to get Morocco to agree to it, the United States recognized Morocco's sovereignty over the disputed Western Sahara region.

 

Trump left office Jan. 20 under a cloud of controversy, potentially impacting whether the pair of aides would be awarded the Nobel.

A big fan of Donald Trump and it should be ignored as a request probably came from Trump for the nomination .

Its fair enough for this to be worthy of consideration but overall I don't think they should get anything but a booby prize because of the stain on the Morocco deal and how the Palestinians were screwed on this.

Interesting that Dershowitz didn't include Trump in the nomination.  Agree that Trump shouldn't be included as with nearly all of his administration's accomplishments, he contributed nothing.  But always thought Dershowitz was a Trump guy.   

Please explain how these people improved the live of the Palestinians. Or does nobody care, as usual.

Dershowitz isn't really a trump guy.per se. Overall he's a liberal and passionate about civil liberties. He's also an extremist Zionist and has some.strange outlier interpretations of the U.S. constitution leading him to believe that presidents shouldn't be impeached for anything. A complicated character for sure. Word is his old friends on Martha's Vineyard don't talk to him anymore.

Nobody is saying they did 

We already know of some of the 'incentives' to get these signatures over the line, none of which were actual peace agreements. (e.g. hundreds of millions in forgiven compensation debt for Sudan, plus one billion annually from the World Bank).

 

Kushner is an arrogant <deleted>, who crushed the hopes of the Palestinian people, trust he doesn't receive the Nobel Prize for Peace.

Well some people obviously care. But caring alone doesn’t add up to a hill of garbanzo beans. But anyway I doubt Kushner and company will win the prize.

Of course he didn't. 

Overall what the Mr. trump administration "accomplished" with the Israel Palestine conflict is to permanently kill the two state solution. 

In the long run they're going to have to do some kind of one state compromise.

I'm sure they'll get along fine as they have in the past. Rocking the boat with Israel is not something on Biden's list. Sure he'll try to redo an Iran nuclear deal and that will upset Israel but trying to solve the Israel Palestine conflict is a black hole that Biden can't be expected to jump into with so many other more existential crises for Americans.

That's nothing compared to Qatar's billion dollar bailout of Kushner's disastrous real estate investment that threatened to sink the Kushner family. A sweetheart deal that made no financial sense.

While Kushner was busy racking up frequent flyer points and business cards to cement "normalization" arrangements with a handful of unelected aristocratic dictators in countries that were never at war with Israel anyway, the core issue, the only one that will bring permanent peace to the region was ignored, apart from Kushner and Trump trying to foist their Deal of the Century apartheid solution (dictated to them by Netanyahu) onto the Palestinians. 

 

On Kushner and Trump's watch 2016-2020:
512 Palestinian civilians (including 104 children) have been killed by the IDF using American sponsored weapons.

To be locked up for many many years, yes. 

The Nobel Peace Prize has became so discredited over the last 50 years that its a joke beyond funny.  Who cares who gets it, its meaningless. May as well give it to my cat for not killing any birds this last 12 months, she deserves it more than this trio.
