It seems we are reading every week about the Doom and Gloom reality

In Pattaya

Then the Tourist board comes up with ideas to say the foreign tourist will return  soon

exaggerated breaking news.

It’s very simple, in terms of tourism Hua Hin is seen an extension of Bangkok, Pattaya is not. You simply cannot compare as both locations were established for completely different reasons, one was set up for American sex pests, the other was established for the Bangkok elites, with a big royal influence.

Thais were vacationing in Hua Hin long before Gi Joe was hitting the bars on Pattaya beach road. Even to this day many Bangkok Thais barely recognise Pattaya as an existence, its a place north of Rayong where foreigners go, a place where the poor Isaan girls go to sell their body’s to support their families, it has no identity.

Not suggesting Hua Hin is better, I like both, just saying Pattaya will die long before Hua Hin will.

False history from some old tour guide and a decade out of date. Domestic tourism, mostly from Bangkok, now represents maybe 30% of Pattaya's growing economy (and helping keep  Thai and Thai-foreign places afloat now). Traffic jams every weekend from BKK tourists, never mind holidays, lots of new clubs, restos, malls well patronized. Condos! I suspect it's already more popular with Bangkokians than old Hua Hin.  Nothing to suggest that the pre-COVID pattern won't reassert itself.

Not going to thrive on a two day week.

Usual straw man argument when the doomster narrative feels threatened.????

Again: no one ever said, thought, implied, or suggested in any way whatsoever, at any time in history, that domestic tourism is, or ever will be, a replacement for international tourism or that Pattaya doesn't need, want, and encourage international tourism. Feel better?

Nonsense, many many Bangkok Thais in Pattaya during the weekends, doubt either will die.

They like the shopping centers and Jomtien beach.

The house opposite mine is owned by a BKK Thai, some buy condos, many of them high end (+10 mill)

So, the entertainment industry and its workers are in strife. For some reason I find this news somewhat satisfying.

After all the scams, stealing and disrespect they have treated foreigners with its gives them time to realise where their money was coming from and appreciate their customers a bit more.

Karma is a bitch somchai and somying.

No, but many might just survive on that.

Survival mode is where we are at the moment.

Can they survive for at least another year, and even if they can, why would they try?

I've never had any problems with the 'entertainment' ladies.

No scams, no disrespect, maybe a little stealing.

Stealing is something many ladies do (my Brit former wife of 30 years stole 600,000 pounds from me).

The odd 100bht or 1,000bht missing from my wallet isn't a big deal for me, my fault for not putting my wallet in the safe at night.

In the big scheme of life, petty theft isn't that big a deal IMHO.

The appearance of love and affection is far more important to me.

So is it something you are happy to do?

I've never needed to steal, I've never been poor, but can have sympathy for some who feel the need to steal.

And I can also understand cultures where stealing and corruption are nationally acceptable.

(Without indulging in those activities myself)

I'm sad the scene in Pattaya has come to this low point.

there was nowhere else quite like  it.

You've never been poor, all your comments on here are about how little you pay for your Nat King and how little you spend....is that not a contradiction?

Just for my info, what cultures is stealing accepted?

Watched an interview with a recidivist (Middlesbrough)...his argument was the same....he was unemployed and lived on a 'council' estate opposite a well-heeled area (if there is such a thing in Middlesbrough).......when asked why did he regularly go over and break into properties and steal?......They have stuff and I don't.

Example?

Read the news and then see the lack of outrage by thai citizens......ask them what they think and they just raise their eyebrows and say something along the lines of " thai style.....or.....normal in thailand"  totally accepting of the theft and crime.

As demonstrated by the lack of action by police and courts when something gets pinched.

So no example of stealing.

What you refer to is corruption.
