Minister Confirms to Close Hua Lamphong Main Station

BANGKOK (TNA) - Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob confirmed the old Hua Lamphong railway terminus will be closed when the Bang Sue Grand Station is opened.

The minister said that he stood firm with a policy to close Hua Lamphong but the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) would study how to serve commuters who needed trips to inner Bangkok areas.

Students and office workers still needed to reach inner Bangkok and the SRT could operate commuter trains to serve them, Mr Saksayam said. He told the SRT to propose a relevant plan on March 4.

"Students and office workers still needed to reach inner Bangkok and the SRT could operate commuter trains to serve them, Mr Saksayam said. He told the SRT to propose a relevant plan on March 4."

In other words there is no complete plan, and shockingly there is no plan for rail transport right into the city centre to accommodate hundreds of thousands of office and similar workers.

Never mind, I'm sure they can set up shuttle buses.

Or they could build an underground line....  which has been running for a number of years

Theyre talking about inter-city travel that the SRT provides. If Hua Lamphong is closed inner city residents would now have to travel to Bang Sue station to grab that train to another city. And many smaller stops along the way provide inner city residents with daily commute. For example....Samsen station ..a passenger living around Chinatown can jump in a Hua L and off at Samsen for work. After that...he has to travel all th way north to Bang Sue and take a train back to Samsen station...very long and arduous route. Can use BTS perhaps but not exactly serving same base and quite expensive for working class Thais

You want them to keep the station open to please the few Bangkok residents who live within walking distance of Hua Lampung?

That seems rather extravagant.

I don't want them to do anything...simply explaining the Thai thinking on the matter. Many routes are not served by the BTS/MRT without additional expense. I have watched Thais let the 10 baht AC bus go by to wait for the old red 3 baht bus...to save money...that is who they are concerned about

With Bangkok slowly sinking, the new submarines need to be delivered in order provide rolling stock for an underground line.

Well done for the most cliched TVF comment ever - combining two of the biggest cliches in to one single sentence!  (You must be disappointed you didn't get "brown envelopes" in there though - you missed a trick)
