The Thai soap opera “Mia Jum Pen”, which caused controversy for its depiction of rape, is under fire once again. This time it involves a scene in which a female character, dressed in a Japanese style school uniform, seduces the male lead.

The scene sparked a new round of negative reaction on Twitter, pushing the hashtag #BanMiaJumPen (#แบนเมียจำเป็น) to the top once again.

Most of the tweets condemned the producers for sexualising school uniforms and the TV channel for allowing such scenes to be broadcast. Twitter users also commented on how often young students across Thailand become victims of sexual abuse.

I strayed into a go-go bar once where everybody was dressed like that. And they were much better actors, too.   I was outraged, of course!

  • Old hat, Brits were doing this in the 1950s with St.Trinians.

  • They are missing the point.   The soaps should be banned for the standard of what passes for acting.

An ill fitting uniform with an enormous bow at the front hardly sexy. Buy whatever floats your boat and gets the "netizens" enraged.

Oh my god! How can you seduce somebody with that face expression? I would run as far as I could. Must be one of those guys that "feel the need for sex".

Watch the clip. It is pretty comical.

And then one wonders why the Thai School Girls and Uni-girls emulate what they see on the television.  Again Art imitating real life activities.  You just can not make all this feces up.

That would be a nice change from the nurses uniform that MrsJ wears from time to time....of course without the bow....

But the small minded viewers just love it!

Thai Lakorn reflect both what Thai society is, and what it aspires to be.

Not much difference between the 17th century depictions, and the 21st century depictions. Other than the costumes.

OK, and maybe the Isaan maids don't use quite so much dark make-up in the modern portrayals?

presumably because you hadn't found it before

and you couldn't wait to leave, after you'd paid for your beers, of course.

I didn't leave before one of them seduced me in her Japanese school uniform.

It should've given me the cue to writing a soap opera script.

More BS as if you look on any Bangkok corner about 7-7:30 AM any school day you will see the girls who shucked their flats for heels, applied makeup and hiked their skirts up 8 inches.

The difference being - the Brits present it as and it's accepted as humour, whereas the Thai's are trying to emulate  real life....

That is not bad concentration, it's simply a lack of multi-skill techniques.

My ex-wife would do that in the late 60's. That is why they wear belts . To wraps their skirt waist around.

Underwear checks and jock strap checks as they did back in my day.  Girls never mixed with boys for any sports or during PE Class.

I remember one of the first times I came to Thailand, I was down at MBK sipping coffee and watching all the girls go by in their school uniforms.  Best times.

But not the Chula girls, of course..

That is, most guys older than 14 years old.

Spend time in Japan and watch the old balding old guys with an horrendous comb over ogling at the school  girls on the train and reading their semi porn comic book!

This isn't a totally Thai thing, but what I would say that  unlike in Western cultures is somewhat more accepted across all Asian societies.

Don't get it myself, and I wish asian societies could evolve to also, understand it just ain't right which might over time diminish this deviant obsession
