I went out for breakfast.

Yesterday morning i decided i should go out for breakfast,so i did.

It was very busy in town and the beach was pretty much crowded with people enjoying the long weekend.

Lots of motorbike people and the atmosphere was great,a lot of relaxed people.

Not wanting a Thai food breakfast i looked for a place catering to western, foreign people, farang as they call them here.

Found a place, nice and clean and i was the only customer, these places are really struggling i am sure.

Most of the same places are closed and do not even bother to open i think.

Anyway, first time i was there and i asked for fresh coffee,it came and it was great!

Waiting for my breakfast i smelled some one smoking a cigarette ,i looked and the waitress was just sitting there smoking

a fag.

I got up,walked to the bar and asked for the bill, paid and left.

Some people just do not have a clue!

Went home and made some food here.

Rant over.

Being a smoker is one thing but this was in a restaurant where smoking is forbidden,no clue these people!

Although not a smoker, to be truthful, I don't think they missed either of you..

Neither will they ever get my business, they just don't get it.

I will never go there again and when i take friends out for a drink or for food we will never go there. You are probably right, they are doing so well they do not need customers.

Could you not have politely asked them to stop smoking in the restaurant?

I'm more concerned over the maskless morons I see, foreigners who came from countries with horrendous death rates walking around as if covid doesn't exist in Thailand - won't go near a place that has folks drinking, smoking or eating - no loss for I cook healthier and better than most folks here or abroad..

Not at all, you did the right thing.

You don't get it do you, they just lost three customers and income for something a smoker could do when they left !

Disgusting habit anyway - kissing a smoker to me was like running your tongue around an ashtray

Do you see those people here in Thailand? To me it looks there are not very many foreigners at the moment.

as he was the only customer I'm sure they couldn't give a ****. I wouldn't eat at a place that wasn't crowded (pre covid) knowing that the food would never be fresh..

Of course they would'nt give a ****, they don't give a **** about anything, well, accept money!

You could have just asked her to stop smoking. Then you could have enjoyed your breakfast, have enjoyed your time and maybe go there again another day.

Now you are obviously not the happy. That's the opposite of win/win and it was entirely up to you.

I attach a picture of part of my last breakfast in a nice restaurant. ????

You'd never been there before and you'll never go there again and, as you said yourself, you don't get out much, seems that the loss of all of your "business" would be less than inconsequential.

I don't get it? he was the only one at the restaurant or were following him around and ate there at the same time with your daughter? When will people realize that foreigners don't make a damn bit of economical difference in the country, especially since covid..

Ah, the country is almost crippled by the loss of foreign tourists! I think they make around 20% of GDP difference!

I think you are right BUT I would have told them exzctly why, so they can either adjust or lose. I would also make a point of going back a 2nd time to see if it had changed. Give them a chance and the benefit the first time. If it was repeated or they appeared not to careless then I wouldnt go again.

there's some I see here in Hua Hin mask less,  walked 10 m out of the way twice yesterday to avoid them. Their own countries devastated but too stupid to practice public health measures in a country kind enough to not run them out..

Thanks, I was wondering about that...

Is that Western as in "howdy Cowboy?"

As us Western people say, "That's what they call a bad day at Black Rock"

You should not have to ask. But remember, this is real life.

Do you really think they would have spat in your breakfast if you would have asked politely?

I think sometimes we should give others a little slack. Some time ago I had a new neighbor in my condominium. The first couple of times when I saw him he was a little rude and I almost said something not so nice to him. A week or two later we chatted in the lift and he is actually a nice guy. Since then I am happy so see him. What would be the situation now if I would have followed my first impulse? Live and let live!

this is an endless discussion had over many years - too lazy to dig up the research but I believe that the importance of foreigners spending habits have been thoroughly disproven..
