Opening up to foreign tourists: Thais fear vaxxed foreigners could still spread disease

Thailand's authorities met yesterday to discuss ways to open up the country to foreign tourists and businessmen who have been vaccinated against Covid-19, reported The Bangkok Insight.

Secretary general of the NSC or natiopnal Security Council Gen Natthaphol Nakpanich told the media that reps from the public health ministry, foreign ministry, interior ministry and the digital economy and society ministry were in attendance.

Conspicuous by their apparent absence were the tourism ministry, notes Thaivisa.

The meeting came as governments around the world and now Thailand begin their vaccine rollouts.

On the table was how to move forward to open the country to foreign tourists and foreign businessmen who have already received a jab.

Gen Natthaphol was at pains to point out that no concrete decisions were yet taken, this was a fact finding mission.

He noted that being vaccinated was one thing and meant the person would not be able to get Covid. But they could still be a carrier and infect Thai people so the country has to proceed cautiously.

The way forward to opening up to sporting events with foreign participation was also high up the agenda.

And exactly what form of quarantine was to be employed was also discussed.

At the moment the new fangled "Villa" and "Area" quarantine - still 14 days - is being employed in pilot schemes and this may be the way forward at least in the short term.

What's needed is a  50 point  plan, that'll  sort  it!

Area" quarantine -

Far to complicated, it'll never work. Either stick to current rules with no tourists, or vaccin +test before and after arrival which might entice a few.

Wrong.

Is it stupidity or deliberate fake news?

Yeah, foreigners are the super spreader breed. Wonder if they understand that the same goes for Thais?

It doesn't.

Thais wear a mask.

Foreigners don't.

Thailand will not be able to safely open up for foreign tourism, until they have their own population vaccinated. The generals have made an own goal, by not even having started vaccinating people yet, while supposedly being busy counting brown envelopes.

The theory that vaccinated people can still spread the disease was postulated by Fauci and other notable epidemiologists. It was based on the fact that there was no clear evidence that people who had been vaccinated could not spread the disease, prudent conservatism as befits a scientist. However, now that millions of people have been vaccinated and data is analysed, its clearer that people who have been vaccinated are highly unlikely to contract Covid and even less likely to pass it on to others. Like many things Covid, its a learning process and scientists invariably promote the worst case scenario. We have now reached a point that declaring that people who have been vaccinated can still spread Covid is indeed fake news.

COVID-19 alert
Common questions

Can a vaccinated person still spread Covid virus?
Since scientists haven't yet found evidence that the vaccines provide mucosal immunity, someone who is vaccinated and has no symptoms of illness may be carrying the live SARS-CoV-2 virus and spreading it to others when they cough, breath or sneeze.6 days ago

Does the vaccine prevent you from spreading Covid?
Experts say people can still spread and even develop COVID-19 after getting a vaccine. They note the immunity from the vaccine doesn't begin to emerge until at least 12 days after inoculation. They add the vaccine doesn't prevent coronavirus infection.Jan 19, 2564 BE

Fortunately,  you are much smarter than Fauci and other notable epidemiologists.

They have now found that evidence.

Wrong again.

I guess you forfeited the benefit of doubt.

You are spreading fake news about covid 19.

In Thailand,  that's illegal.

no they have not!

A growing body of evidence suggests that the Covid-19 vaccine can slow the spread of the coronavirus, Dr. Anthony Fauci said Wednesday.

https://www.kezi.com/content/news/Covid-19-vaccines-may-prevent-infection-and-not-just-symptoms-study-suggests-573837811.html

"Health experts have said that data so far has shown that Covid-19 vaccines prevent symptoms of the virus -- but a new study suggests that the Moderna and Pfizer/BioNTech vaccines may also prevent infections.

A team at the Mayo Clinic health system looked at more than 31,000 people across four states who had received at least one dose of either vaccine -- and found the vaccines were upwards of 80% effective in preventing infection 36 days after the first dose."

Similar findings by AZ in the UK.

The promising findings mirror data from Israel's world-beating roll-out and come after the UK's vaccines minister Nadhim Zahawi today claimed evidence the jabs also curb transmission 'looks good'

Maybe tourists should just stay away so they don't catch the virus from un vaxxed Thais!

After a year of rest, the Flu will be back in the autumn,

which means another vaccine. Sorry folks.

.........and what will the lottery numbers be next time?

So its not happening this year and probably half of next year then.

Sat around twiddling their thumbs trying to broker a deal to pocket the most cash they can through this pandemic while people in the tourist industry are suffering.

The big words in your information is "may also prevent". You do know what that means. Can be translated as very vague.

After that it stands upwards 80% effictive in preventing infection after 36 days after the first dose. What do you do day 37? Take a new dose? Next one day 74......and so on, right?

Sure, it certainly looks like Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine is the most effective. However, going from that to state it´s new evidence that it prevents infection is a far stretch on the reality meter.
