Chiang Mai ATM theft: Professional thieves have tried tricks to deceive Thai police

Sanook followed up on the theft of 2.1 million baht from an ATM in Jom Thong, Chiang Mai.

At least two thieves cut their way into the back of an ATM at the now closed SCB branch, footprints at the scene showed.

Jom Thong chief Pol Col Chatwarin Bunnak held a meeting with provincial police.

Latest developments were that a black car had been circling in the area and that bank staff putting money in the ATMs - 6 million in two machines - had been watched.

Police said it was well planned and professional.

Now it has energed that the thieves used the FRONT door of the bank to gain entry. They made it look like they had got in via the back to put investigators off the scent.

Also the thieves took CCTV cameras hidden inside the room where the ATMs were located.

Without elaborating further the police said they were confident of quick warrants and arrests.

Thaivisa notes that although Sanook did not speculate further it appeared to suggest that an insider or someone with insider knowledge may be behind the heist.

a useful tip to the police: all bank employees should be required to leave their shoes home and get to work  barefoot  as the thieves left some bare footprints, indeed:cheesy:
