Chonburi school director tried to pay off distraught mum after 8 year old fell off second floor

Sanook reported that a school director in Chonburi tried to pay off a mother after her eight year old son had a serious accident at school.

"M" aged 8 suffered a fractured skull and needed surgery for a brain haemorrhage after he fell.

His mother got a call all parents dread when a class teacher phoned one lunchtime to tell her of the accident. 

The boy had gone onto an awning to retrieve a dropped pencil but on his return had been pushed by another pupil. 

The boy was initially taken to Bang Bung Hospital after the incident at lunchtime on February 18th.

There he was given four stitches but a CT scan at Chonburi hospital revealed the extent of the injury.

The boy was in ICU for two days and after a further stay on a regular ward was released on February 26th but needs constant close supervision and medication for months. 

The mother "Wi" 43 went to meet social campaigner and activist Paveena Hongsakul at the foundation that bears her name north of Bangkok yesterday where senior education department officials were in attendance to discuss where to go next with the case. 

Wi told the meeting that the director of the school had visited her son in hospital with the class teacher and offered her 10,000 baht and later offered to give her 10,000 baht more "to settle the case and not waste time".

She rejected the idea that this was the end of the matter saying that she had to give up her 14,000 a month job to care for her son and wanted greater financial restitution.

She also wanted to know how her son came by such an accident and what was the level of care at the school. 

Paveena noted that insurance in schools does not cover all cases of injury or provide enough money to some victims and recommended that the education department set up a special fund.

The education officials present said they had been in touch with the school and promised a proper resolution to the case.

They're only kids, for gods sake, the school should have adequate insurance...

The School should Pay  ,Never mind the 10/20 Thousand THB At least it should be THB 30 Mill

This is in Thailand, the floor number would obviously be whatever floor numbering system is standard here in Thailand.

Aren't they have to have accident Insurance? School fees ?Government Handouts,Government money allocated for the running of the school that sometimes goes into the Wrong Hands.
