Khao San Road: Allow Songkran water fight and we'll make 20 million a day from 20,000 tourists, association

The head of the Khao San Road traders' association told Sanook that he was contacting the Bangkok Municipal Authority to allow water splashing at the famous tourist area.

Sanga Reuangpatanakul said that if they are able to splash water freely then 15,000 - 20,000 Thai tourists will descend on the street per day from April 13th to 15th.

That means spending of 15-20 million baht a day.

No water and the money will be lost and people will only go to the tourism landmark to take pictures.

Sanga said that after the pubs and bars in the area were allowed to serve alcohol again and open to 11 pm they had recovered to around 70% of what they had post first wave last year.

Many bars in the area remain closed as owners consider it not worth opening to just 11 pm.

Thaivisa notes that Sanga's plea may fall on deaf ears. Though decisions on whether to allow water fights will be made this week, and possibly as early as today (Monday) it has been widely reported that celebrations will be muted and more cultural in nature.

If my calculation is correct,  that's 1000 Bullshat per day.

Yes a bit much.. i wonder why they always need to exaggerate instead of giving realistic figures. It makes them look foolish. Maybe other Thais know this and automatically take into account it will be far less.

I think the extra zeros in the 20 and the 20,000 are unfortunate typos...

Hopefully they will make enough money to pay for the treatment of the additional Covid cases.

Yeah there we go... profit over safety.

No inoculations yet but lets have a mass street party.

There's a big difference between MAKING and TAKING.

It is my understanding that Songkran is a National anniversary celebrating cultural heritage. I never realized that it was created to make a monetary profit for retailers. (Note to self: Pay more attention in future)
