TNN reported that Thai social media was awash with comment after a story about a very old man in search of his teen sweetheart was posted on a Korat news site.

Winit Buncheun, aged 92, went from Bangkok to Nakhon Ratchasima in the north east to look for Thida Bunyasata - who would now be about 88 if she was still alive.

Winit said he thought she would be living on Jomsurang Road and he hoped relatives would put him in touch with her.

He hadn't seen her for 70 years.

Netizens said this was very romantic noting that if the lady was alive she would be delighted that someone still was thinking of her.

He might have left it a tad late?

Will anybody ever bother their ar$e$ to come look for any of us?

There was a little more info in Khaosod of 18/03/21. He said he had initially finished with her, giving the excuse that he wanted to move on. He was looking for her to find out how she was doing these days.
Someone had already posted on social media she had moved to Ubon Ratchathanee province, so he had already left Khorat and returned to BKK and would continue his search later.
He said they had met in BKK in 1949 and dated for 5-6 years before separating. It had both been their first experience of love. Eventually she went to study in Khorat but they kept in touch by letter until he sent her a final letter in 1954 saying he was getting married to someone else. She responded in her last letter wishing them every happiness.
But the truth is he hadn't got married, it was just a lie because he didn't feel up to the task of coping with a long distance relationship. So he was now looking for her to apologise for what he'd done.
After that he didn't see her again for 6 years until 1960 when he unexpectedly came across her in BKK with her mother and a young man at her side. He hadn't dare approach them to say hello and that's the last time he ever saw her, 61 years ago.
He still remembered everything about her: what ice cream she liked, her favourite ice cream parlour she liked to go to, the first movie they went to. He still had all their photos and an embroidered handkerchief she gave him and admitted he still thought about her all the time. However, he acknowledged everyone chooses their own path in life, has their own family and he hopes she's happy. He's just looking to find out if she's still alive and if so, how she is, as a friend.
