Thailand's Immigration Bureau reported on an investigation into a gang ripping off foreigners for Alternative State Quarantine.

They received a report from a woman who they named as Nicole from South Africa who had arranged for her son to go into ASQ in Thailand.

The mother had contacted a webpage that offers ASQ promotions at www.wanderthai.com

(Thaivisa notes that there is no suggestion that this website is fraudulent).

Shortly thereafter Nicole received an email from someone who claimed to be the hotel manager requesting payment transfer which she did in the sum of 35,000 baht.

It subsequently emerged that the person was not the manager and the hotel knew nothing of the booking.

The IB's region 3 unit found out that the person who made the withdrawal was a woman they named only as "Amy" who was wanted on a warrant for fraud issued in Ayutthaya last October and who was residing in Bang Saen, Chonburi.

She was found there where a search of her room uncovered an ATM card used in the withdrawal of the money and other evidence.

She said that she was paid 1,000 a day by another person (who the IB declined to name) who was part of the gang.

Investigations continue.

Everything imaginable is open to scamming.

Another reason not to consider ASQ at any cost????

So how did they pull off the scam? if the wanderthai site is legit .. a bogus mirror site with similar Url or advertising on the legit site with bogus contact details?

I don't understand; she was wanted for fraud, and suddenly after 6mth they knew where she was. Boggled I am.
