Naew Na reported that the Tourism Authority of Thailand were predicting a far quieter Songkran this year as the latest wave of the pandemic takes hold.

Their assessment is that spending will be 20% down on previous predictions with 9.6 billion baht turnover.

Songkran would not be "lively" according to the TAT.

Meanwhile travel is down too with 4,160 tickets being returned to bus companies. The highest proportion of those were travellers who were intending to go to the north east for the holidays.

Meanwhile Thailand's trade minister called for those who take advantage with sharp practices to be fined and jailed.

Jurin Laksanawisit - DPM and trade minister - has ordered authorities nationwide to investigate closely any illegal practices.

The public can call 1569 24/7 to report illegal activity or go direct to his ministry.

Examples are 10,000 baht fines for those who do not advertise prices properly for food and drink and jail terms of 7 years and fines of 140,000 for price gouging.

Well Jurin you need to start looking at government officials first, more illegal practices going on there than anywhere else.

"Meanwhile Thailand's trade minister called for those who take advantage with sharp practices to be fined and jailed."

Meanwhile it is ok for hospitals whom no doubt his parliamentary colleagues have shares in, to charge exorbitant prices for covid tests !!!

Maybe that's a good thing. Maybe the authorities will take more action from angry Thais than foreigners who will be gone in two weeks

Have a walk around my neck of the woods, 80% of food outlets never have a price list up.

That's the question, to raise the price or to tell her to shove it.................................. Your choice ! Or up to you as they say in the LOL.

But you said " not polite " ? Which is why I questioned your response.

Admittedly it wasn't polite, but I think I, my mrs & and a lot of other people would have said the same, when this thing first hit us many people tried to cash in by upping the price of masks, gels and other safety products.

I apologise if I misread your reply but it wasn't difficult to be honest, you need more than 2 words to avoid confusion. ????

No need to apologise, by saying not polite I was just joking as this phrase is quite common in Thai circles. See it as sarcastic.

and I definitely did NOT mention Siam BioSciences......

RE; advertiising prices, we were in a Thai restaurant reading the menu, i asked  my wife had she any idea as to why no prices for the meals  were shown, she asked  one of the staff, the reply was" its up to who is ordering"..i took that to mean one price for Thai's, another price for foreigners... we left ..

I've noticed the food of prices at restaurants have gone up a little. Is it just my place or everywhere else in Thailand?

This has been a common practice for many restaurants in tourist areas. The prices on the English/Chinese menu is for foreigners. Nothing strange about that.

If the menu is all in Thai, then it is Thai price.
