Local officials on the holiday island of Koh Samui in the south of Thailand announced that four people had tested positive for Covid-19.

Three are foreigners including a British national and one is a tourist policeman usually stationed on the mainland. He had earlier been vaccinated.

Case #1 is a Korean man who arrived by air from Bangkok after taking a Covid test in the capital. He is now in Koh Samui Hospital - his wife and child tested negative and have returned to Bangkok.

Case #2 is a British resident of Samui for the last four years. He went to a party in Phuket with a Chinese and a Kazakhstan friend before returning on April 10th  and testing positive and is also in Koh Samui Hospital.

His Chinese travelling companion tested positive also becoming the third case but the Kazakh national was negative and is quarantining at home before another test in five days.

Case #4 is a tourist policeman usually serving in Don Sak. He had been vaccinated against the virus at the start of April and is now in Koh Samui Hospital.

Ten colleagues tested negative and are in quarantine.

Daily News further reported a local tourism industry rep called Ratchaporn Phoonsawat as saying that operators on the island had seen a 20% cancellation and referral of bookings.

It's actually getting amusing now ????  notice the Korean national and the Chinese national don't make it into the first sentence and the Chinese one doesn't get the CASE #3 prefix ...

Cowards!

Wonder if the cop who had previously been vaccinated was given Sinovac ?

I would think so yes. This is the second official who has contracted the virus after the first dose, I wonder how many more there are that are not reported?

We all know that vaccines are at full protection a couple of weeks after your second dose but this Sinovac is unusually low in its first dose protection and this is why we are seeing this.

Only effective information on this can stop this occurring more and more. When people were being mass vaccinated in Phuket there was no information given on this important fact and as a consequence I'm sure many are feeling complacent because they think they are now protected.

This is a major problem...or will be......people think being vaccinated gives the 100% protection......sinovac is only 50%......a toss of a coin and you have no protection.

correct me if i'm wrong, but when vaccinated does n't the vaccine actually give you a mild dose of the virus so the immune system can build up antibodies,So when tested after the vaccine is given would n't it be normal to test positive anyway?

You're wrong yes but thats not meant to be a blunt statement its just that both Sinovac or AZ do not contain any of the live virus. If that was the case then the half a million people who have been vaccinated in Thailand so far are walking around infected.

Well. If you were offered a bet at 2:1 on the outcome of a football game would you take those odds?

not really the same thing....50/50 on a possible health problem down the road i'd want 100% but look it's each to his own judgement, many would be ok with 50/50....but not me.

I'm not an expert and have no interest on the complexities of how the vaccine actually reach their aims through their methods. I just look at the different benefits of vaccines based on available trusted information for the layman, I leave the gobbledygoop to others.

Realistically I don't thing any Doctor would categorically give you a 100% assurance for a cure for any medical condition or threat.

your right but you know years back with vaccines for rubella diptheria, smallpox etc. i don't remember anyone having adverse reactions...i just wont trust any of these virus vaccinations....produced too quickly without any trials.Never put my faith in big pharma.

I just saw on TV that Chinese virus protection is very low in protecting anybody from catching the virus

Correct, its only 3% effective after first dose, then goes up to 27.7% after second dose, two weeks after it reaches its max which is around 55%. However its never been tested on the UK strain so it's probable the figures are worse than that.

It boggles the mind that anyone would choose Sinovac over AZ given its extremely low efficacy, yet that's what people, are doing in Thailand from what I have heard

I asked this question a while ago when the Brazilian variant first appeared and now its more pertinent. Is it possible that a vaccine with such a low efficacy rate could actually be responsible for the variants that are appearing? If covid can overcome the Chinese vaccine so easily then in my mind its more likely that the virus will adapt in someone who has a week vaccine. A 3% efficacy sounds not only a waste of time, but also extremely dangerous.

If that Sinovac stuff does not work , the ones who took it will still feel protected and go out to meet friends etc , but , in reality , just spread the Virus ...?

In this case it would be better to take it off the ( Vaccine ) market at all .

Yes.....this a major problem........even if you are a "lucky one" and it works, you might still contract and spread the virus.........if you are unlucky and it doesn't work you could die.

???

Theres less than 200,000 people that have been vaccinated in Thailand.

Another problem will be the innefectiveness of SINOVAC,  Only 50.4%,  awful even by Chinese standars.

As this is a Samui thread, it might be worth noting that expats going for the vaccine at a private hospital on Samui will only be offered the AZ vaccine (according to my doctor).

Stay safe people.

I certainly wouldn't be going to see a doctor who regular told me "don't worry......there's a 50:50 chance I might cure you".........
