Hence the advice for everyone to do what they can to improve their health. Having a strong immune system is the #1 requirement. Lose weight if you are fat, get yourself fit, sort out that diabetes, hypertension and high cholesterol and get off the pills if you can. We've had over a year warning to get these things sorted yet still most people have carried on as before  ... just waiting for that magic vaccine.

Having a strong immune system and being in peak health won't stop you from getting Covid, just like a vaccine won't stop you getting it either, but it will help your body to deal with it and as the statistics make glaringly obvious, will reduce your risk of death.

Agree 100%. If you do some research into the causes of death in the world, #1 is heart disease.

Wonder why Covid is the topic of the day - Social Media, Stupidity, ???

And lets not talk about World Hunger - Oh No - can't do that !

What I see on Thaivisa and social media and hear from people all around me is an OBSESSION with case statistics bordering on a morbid fascination. There is genuine very real fear out there. I believe that some perspective should be placed on this and that is what I am doing.

Indeed there is a genuine fear and quite rightly so. I have a pre existing condition, I do not want to die and leave my daughter without a father.

My adult son also has a pre existing condition, I know lots of people personally with them, we all do.

I wish you all the Best. Stay Safe - for your own sake and that of your family.

But those who do not have any pre existing condition should be able to live their lives.

Risk is faced daily. Ride a bike, drive a car, cross the street, take a bath, ...

Depends on the individual how much they are willing to assume.

Like posting on Internet Forums. You always run the risk of becoming choked with the - shall we say 'different' opinions you read.

But - want the gravy, accept the lumps.

They should  close the shopping malls NOW, but we do know that their owners are "very well connected"so I doubt will happen

Those with pre existing conditions should also be able to live their lives, most will carry on doing so if they do not catch covid. A pre existing condition does not mean you have a shortened life expectancy because of it.

Thank you for the sentiments

Some off-topic diversion posts re COVID death rates in the UK have been removed. The topic here is about Thailand and potential COVID related restrictions.

That doesn't address my question. Which was why is it safe to shop at 20.55 and not at 21.05.

OK, I will try to answer your question in a way that you might understand it. The answer is it has nothing to do with the time that YOU can go to the shop, it is so that the shop has the extra time for cleaning and sanitizing which was never done before Covid. We close our shop an hour earlier now so that we can give it a good clean and sanitize everything properly which there was no need to spend the extra time to sanitize before this virus hit and then we go over the shop again in the morning before we open to the public so that our shop is safe from the virus until the first customer comes through the front door.

Thailand is relying on vaccines with relatively low efficacy rates vs Pzifer and Moderna in the 90s used in the US. AZ is in the mid 70s and SV is probably less than 50 but has declined to disclose phase 3 trial data, so we don’t know.  That means a larger percent of population will need to be vaccinated to achieve herd immunity as a larger proportion of vaccines will not prevent infection.

But Thailand is aiming to vaccinate a much smaller percentage of its population than countries deploying more effective vaccines and the roll out of its big white hope local AZ is still months off and it is unknown whether it can start in time and without glitches.

What a mess!

Irrelevant post.

Maybe you should apply to have Pfizer and Moderna approved in Thailand, nobody else has.

In case you did not notice, heart diseases are not contagious....

Less than a hundred people have died so far in this country. Restrictions are nonsense. Virus is gonna do what the virus is gonna do.

Gabbage. If there had of been strict travel restrictions put into place before Songkran then the virus could have been contained to a specific area and then everyone in the area could have been tested and treated but instead the virus was allowed to travel outside of that area into new areas and therefore be able to infect people that would not have been infected if the tight travel restrictions had of been put in place. It does not matter what it is (fire, flood, virus), if you want to control it with the idea of defeating it then you must contain it to one area and to do that then you must put in some type of restrictions to stop it from spreading.

Infectious Fatality Ratio is rising. Next mutations are on the horizon.

For each person infected....5 more will communicate the virus.

As of September 20th 2020 CDC model.

Dr Fauci said we should wear 2 masks now. Do you think this will help? I wonder, just how many masks will stop the flow of oxygen?

If that were given as the reason for early closing, the public would no doubt understand. But no reason is given. However, whats wrong with a 9pm closing of malls? Why would most normal people want to be walking around shopping Mlls at that time of the evening?

Israel - mostly Pfizer and very few deaths and infections

Mostly because there are very few people there.

Per capita that would be about 1200 in Thailand

So not too far from what we have here.

Relative to the numbers in the midst of the crisis and since the vaccinations they are extremely low. Indisputable fact.

5 hours ago, PGSan said:

Maybe that is because the policy works.  Not much due to the shopping itself, but it is effective just because such restrictions influence many people to stay a home more and not party in late night large groups.

@thaiwrath Why the confusion?

Agreed with this caveat of relativity.  To a scientist, all “facts” are to be disputed, especially the “well-known” ones!

Crsis?  What crisis?  BoJo is here!

Sorry, I meant to write thus: No it does not sound logical to me.

Can one ‘explain’ a lack of logic in some people?

The short term recklessness will now lead to longterm containment, economic losses and suffering for the population in Thailand.

Instead of being pro active, these reactive decisions are inevitable but so unavoidable had they acted sooner in targeted lockdowns. Its not like this was difficult to forecast. A 12 year old child in science class could have done better and still only got a c mark.

Its not like they did not see this happening in other countries with this new variant, or did they think they were immune or are they just plain stupid.

The enlightened one reportably has not been seen for a few days, this if true should give us confidence that things will return to normal shortly.
