Thailand reported 1,582 new COVID-19 infections on Friday, continuing the trend in rising new cases.

 

Of the new cases, 1,577 were local transmissions, while 5 were imported from people entering quarantine. 

 

To date, most new cases have been reported in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chonburi, Samut Prakan, Narathiwat and Prachuap Khiri Khan

 

10,461 people remain in hospital receiving treatment.

 

Friday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 39,038 with 97 deaths.

The Nation is reporting province breakdowns of new cases for today include Bangkok at 312, followed by 272 in Chiang Mai, 111 in Chonburi and 100 in Prachuap Khiri Khan.

 

 

But more worrying is that they report 67 are in serious condition.

Thailand today reports passing more than 10,000 people currently hospitalized for testing positive for COVID, setting a new record in the latest outbreak. 9884 people were reported in traditional hospitals, with another 577 people in temporary field hospital facilities. 16 people of those hospitalized were said to be intubated.

 

Under government policy, all people who test positive for COVID must be hospitalized in some type of facility until no longer contagious.

Indeed although as we also know, hospitals are getting overwhelmed and in many cases positive cases are being asked to quarantine at home for a few days until beds are found for them, this from your previous post a couple of days ago, so no doubt the shortage has increased since then

Now the big problem.  What happens when ICU bed are full and one of us has an accident requiring treatment?  Ugh.

Daily COVID vaccinations report from the MoPH...  The first chart below shows total doses administered, along with the subtotals for first and second shots. Daily vaccinations have slowed significantly over the Song Kran holidays.

 

The Khaosod English news website reported that vaccinations thus far have covered only 0.88 percent of Thailand's population.

Credit where credit is due, these daily CCSA reports are quite detailed, more so than I've seen from many other countries.

Just the tip of the CV-19 iceberg. Like to know the real numbers as these are just release numbers. Anyone hear how many BKK and CM?

There are now hotels for people detected with Covid.  This is only people with minor symptons.  Therefore, no shortage of beds.  Only at a cost

Appendicitis.  Stroke.  Diverticulitis, Heart attack.  Etc, etc, etc.

It is getting very tenuous with hospitals being now needed for the more serious cases and the field hospitals obviously beginning to be in more of a demand.  Wish someone in authority would pull the trigger or hit the big red button and get things going as far as vaccinations nationwide. On top of that they need to try and reassure the country they are making changes to help them. Instead no sound or firm decisions made and folks still all over the place spreading the virus as they continue to travel.

Yet....let's hope there isn't though.  ICU beds is the biggie.  And ventilators.

I was referring to Bangkok, no shortage of beds? They was a couple of days ago, maybe they've cleared the backlog already despite the mounting number of daily cases?

They approved yesterday that covid patients can now go to specific hotels (some are same as quarantine hotels) to get better.  Only ones with minor symptons

Yes I read that, are they all ready now and taking patients? 

sadly in coming days we will see MORE CASES in metro Bangkok and vicinity, as more un-tested traveller return to Bangkok !

It sounds like the official announcement/decision on further lockdown type restrictions on various provinces including Bangkok is not going to be made until a subsequent briefing this afternoon.

Re some questions above:

 

--I haven't seen any update from the MoPH in several days on hospital bed availability/utilization stats.

 

--re the government's plans for enlisting hotels into a new quarantine type program for COVID positive cases, to provide an alternate kind of hospitalization, they've been talking a lot about plans for that...  But I haven't seen any of those projects announced as yet as actually being in operation.

Yes there are some Thai superstars already in there as expected

Already at least one quarantine hotel being emptied to be used for this purpose ("guests" being moved to another hotel - from Chor Cher to Grand Richmond).

Thailand with nearly a staggering  1% of 70 million tested in over a year and a similar vaccine policy with 0.25% of the population getting a shot!

 

What more could they do to protect and care for the people? their elite management covid policies have been the envy of governments worldwide.

Same thing as in Europe. The doctor have the call on which patient have a better chance to survive. Sad but true. Luckily we are not quite there yet in Thailand, and based on some unknown miracle for the last year's fatality numbers, we might be lucky again. (it is a mistery to me, with people like Anutin in charge). ????
