Somewhat outrageous...

But... in fairness, the 500 baht charge is not quite the excessive rip off I was expecting when I read the headline.

And yet when it was a fee for all, Thais and Farangs, it was 300b !!

To me thats what I find even worse than the Thais free / non Thais pay.. That when charging non Thais, they jack the price by 60 something %..

The fact is when it was first announced, the charge was 300 baht for all arriving in Phuket, but then they realized this would kill all local tourism so changed it to free for Thai's and 500 for forei

Well well... such an inviting situation.. How many countries is it illegal to discriminate with 2 pricing policy. In Australia companies have been fined massive amounts.. Government many years ago was taken to court..

They want our business investments and money for their economy and choose actively to extort.

So welcoming and so much for equality.

Not in the Kingdom.. Lets take our money to other countries without extortion by government ...

As I have no intention of ever visiting Phuket again because it is highly overrated and high prices, I say good luck to those who wish to stump up 500 baht.

Time to say f'uck it to Phuket.

I has been an ugly place for 30 years: cops hunting tourists, taxi mafias, French drugs dealers, etc...

Should visitors to the country on temporary visas (pretty well all of us) receive free medical treatment sponsored by the public purse? Does that happen in our home country?

Well lets  see now what the uK  says  about this  shall we, even people  living there without permission will get it and any treatment, yes thats what a decent  moral  society does. Thailand like  China MONEY FIRST theyd  sell their own mothers

Coronavirus (COVID-19) update

Overseas visitors to England, including anyone living in the UK without permission, will not be charged for:

  • testing for coronavirus (even if the test shows you do not have coronavirus)
  • treatment for coronavirus – including for a related problem that affects some children called multisystem inflammatory syndrome
  • vaccination against coronavirus

No immigration checks are needed.

See GOV.UK: NHS entitlements for migrants for information in other languages.

Wonderful they bemoan lack of the tourist baht, but those stay here year on year providing income and sup[port to many are to be charged for a test because the Thai Government are too stingy to provide both locals and foreigners ( especially ) expats with free testing and I believe free vaccinations .

Unlike most of the countries all these expats come from where in order to maintain national security and the health of the nation, anyone living there gets free vaccine.

Typical Thai shortsightedness, overt racism and xenephobia.

pointing it out on this forum

Is simply unwanted and off-topic.

And where do ethics come into any of this?

pls note they are running out of RapidTestKits now already and surely need them for poor buggers much more than for rich farang (who are not THAI anyway). Those who don't want to cough up the thb 500 just go to some other holiday destination e.g. Chiang Mai and her fine beaches...

No not any treatment.  Only for covid.

Ethics are part and parcel of this decision have you not noticed or just don't know the definition of ethics?

Whining Guests ????    Thai health care is nationalized and supported by tax payers. Health care rights are not included in any of the visa fees we pay so what's the complaint?

yes thats what it says any treatment related to COVID, to seriously  stop this spread this is what ALL  countries  should be doing.

Seeing as this thread is about covid then what was the point of that comment.

They should be for covid, is  it  that hard to understand, by  doing this foreign people  will  avoid any tests at  all so  keeping covid  spreading.

In case 500THB is  a reason to not go to Phuket well you don't go as you will complain on everything you have to pay for. Fist of all: you are not a Thai civilian, so you don't have to expect the same advantages as a Thai. I case you want the same advantages as in your home country, you stay there, so easy it is.

None of this should be any surprise especially when it comes to this country in particular. Just last year?  they put in on paper ( a law ) that hospital even government can charge different prices for foreigners those most affected are the Expats living here.

When puppet Chan -O was put in charge in one of his speeches he said it was a " black eye "  on Thailand duel pricing. Did it stop NO it just got worse put into law by who? the same people who put him in charge! I remember way before his decline the late HM, in one of his Birthday speeches said just as much " Black eye "  after did it stop NO it just got worse.

We have an pandemic currently it is killing people of all colors the virus doesn't discriminate " critical thinking "  would led leaders to think put color aside and lets just take care of business.

I know a lot of Thais living in my home State and City many haven't gotten their citizen yet, no medical, no S.S.,  no Medicare yet they get free testing if needed and their jab all for free including hospitalization.

It is all a scam!  especially the insurance selling their special Virus coverage I was making a deposit yesterday the bank was empty clerk ask me if I wanted to buy health insurance show me their price list wanted to cover me for my age 200,000 over 50,000 baht a year. I ask about the Covid coverage cheap something like 800 baht for 100,000 B coverage told me I'm not Thai can't buy.  I joking said since I'm not Thai can't buy how is it your bank happily accept my millions of baht?  Just a blank look no critical thinking unable to figure it out!????????

Well, the PC brigade better harden up. This is South East Asia, not Cottonwool Nannyland.

Expecting the Thai taxpayer to foot the bill for our Phuket holidays is a bit much.

If you don't like it then apply for citizenship.

500 sounds fairly reasonable to me.

The salient point escaping you is the poor message it sends out. The tourist industry is on its @rse here and those coming will cover in spending many times more than the cost of the test and they need every tourist $ they can get. This simply propagates the price discriminatory price gouging image and illustrates the utter incompetence of those in charge who imagine people are banging on the door to get in. A rude awakening awaits.
Get it now ?? ????‍♂️

I have many Thai friends living in the UK and they receive tests and vaccines for free. Maybe the UK should reciprocate this kind gesture and charge all Thais an equivalent amount.

And they wonder why the 'Golden Geese' are migrating to pastures new.

If you're talking Puket I need no additional reasons not to go there again. Been there, done that, ripped off more than once.

If you a still in Thailand and are a foreigner you probably wake up each day in a property you contributed financially to, eat and buy items daily to support the economy. In fact, I'd love to see a report on how much (average) all foreigners CURRENTLY spend per day in Thailand supporting the Thai community. I am sure it would shock. As a show of 'thank you for staying' wouldn't it be nice for the Thai Government to acknowledge at least the contribution foreigners have made during this hard time?  Nah...they'd never think of it...

No ethics for you in this, I see, enjoy your life.

I'll stick to the core values of ethical decision making, non discriminatory practice and anti xenophobic behaviour, its stood me well so far in my life and my children. Thats whats important to me.
