Thai media Daily News stopped short of calling it a curfew but the latest order from Nonthaburi's governor effectively asked for that.

The province is to the north west of Bangkok and is in many ways indivisible from the Thai capital.

Governor Sujin Chaichumsak issued a letter Friday effective today (Saturday 24th April) in which he asked for the cooperation of all people in staying home between 9pm and 4 am.

In addition he ordered all state officials and staff to not eat together in groups.

The letter also contained wide ranging orders to close establishments and maintain the temporary closure of many such as bars, massage parlors, fitness, spas, bathing facilities, sports and karaoke.

In addition gatherings are limited.

Thailand continues to combat the latest wave of coronavirus that has seen thousands of cases per day and more than a third of all cases since the pandemic began just this month.

Asking will not work, as many work in the local Talads and leave home to hit the bigger markets to buy their products for the day starting at 2 am.  If they are asking then they should be making it a mandatory curfew while allowing the market folks to be given passes like before, and for those working until 10 pm having a type of document showing they are allowed to travel.  If not any of the above situations then anyone out after 9 should be warned the first time, documented someway, then fined the next time.  Better yet why not run the Philippines model:  1 Member from each house is allowed daily to obtain the necessities and that's it, certificate needed for travel as well.  IF they are serious in wanting to stop the spread then hard decisions are needed.  Asking people to not go out between 9pm and 4am is actually, in my view, not going to be successful.
