PHUKET: Phuket can catch up with world-renowned island tourist destinations the Maldives and the Seychelles and re-open to receiving vaccinated international tourists by July 1, Phuket Vice Governor Piyapong Choowong has assured.

The statement of confidence was delivered during Vice Governor Piyapong’s now nightly video posted online updating the people of Phuket with the latest situation regarding COVID-19 on the island.

The Maldives and the Seychelles were both popular island destinations for tourists around the world, “and so is Phuket,” Vice Governor Piyapong explained.

Although Phuket is a tad more accessible.

Where do the 1000's of expats, many that have helped keep the local economy going and even helped feed some of the locals, get vaccinated?  I am not part of the Thai vaccination program and they are not available at local hospitals/clinics ...

So the guy taking the photo and not wearing a mask is now going to be subject to prosecution or was that actually the vice governor ?(How apt to have that title in Phuket)????

Thailand the only country in the world to vaccinate a holiday island rather than the elderly and vulnerable.. Only about money.

Quite right,

International tourist arrivals (pre-covid)   Islamic Maldives -   1,700,000

                                                                              French/African Seychelles - 500,000

                                                                               Buddhist Phuket  - 9,000,000

Cheapest holiday costs - Phuket, by a long way. The other two destinations are very expensive by world standards.

Entertainment:

Homosexuality and prostitution are illegal in the Maldives.  Since Islam is the religion followed by the inhabitants, it is rare that a woman will be sexually available to a man. Tourists must stay at one hotel for their entire visit. No retirement visa.

Seychellois has a population of less than 100,000 and about 4 discos. Good luck finding a companion for the night.

I haven't been, but would love to see the beaches, particularly on Seychelles. I would also like to go to Pago Pago, dive Palau, cruise the North-west passage trek to the South Pole  and tour Patagonia.

However, this thread isn't about inane comparisons nor wish lists, it's about a large part of the Thai economy attempting to re-start.

Fortunately Phuket tourism isn't targeting the whining British pensioner brigade in Issan to stimulate the economy.

He should stay quiet at this moment in time.

The whole country is in free-fall and all he can say is we're opening up to the world in 2 months.

My vote is they vaccinate the entire Island with sinovac to test the efficacy of the sinovac jab. least that way they will know of it actually works before buying any more of it

At this certain moment the island has almost locked his borders for arrivals ( with test only. And within 2 months they wanna open to the world without restrictions ? Pigs will fly on July 1st
