This UK variant has proved itself to be highly contagious and a big killer.

It is going to get much, much worse, here in Thailand and around the world. The last few days have recorded the highest number of cases in Thailand and throughout the world.

Thailand is experiencing just one of the more virulent mutations that are circulating around the Globe.

There are others such as the " Brazilian Variant ' with its 90+ mutations, the " South African Variant ". The biggest worry for me would be the new ' Indian Variant " which seems to be more powerful than the others, and has Double Mutation.

If the powers that be in Thailand are struggling now, they have not seen anything yet.

I really hope not for the sake of the good people of Thailand, but with this incompetent Government and their Cronies, I fear for the worse

Incredible thailand,

Yet the autocracy still think it is not a problem.

I and many of you feel very sorry for the Thai people who are suffering so much from this. And its only going to get worse as they are now likely to lose another tourist season at the end of this year.

Such an incompetent failure to address the situation.

Just maybe it's not all their fault?

The Thai government made a bet and they lost. Its a shame really because they got so close.

They bet that they could keep the country safe with taught restrictions, until such time that western countries were mostly vaccinated , at which time they could buy the vaccine cheap. I guess they did not count on more infectious variants.

An excellent interpretation and very fair. And if the UK variant did come in a cross the Cambodian border, as seems likely, that could hardly have been anticipated given all the focus is on the border with Myanmar because of the threat that presented.

I find it difficult to be too harsh on the government right now. The world has only a limited capability to produce vaccines presently and that which is being produced is being shepherded to very large western countries who helped pay for its creation and production. Thailand is just one of seventy or more "other" countries who are also trying to improve their position in the vaccine queue and inoculate their population. The fact that they can't do it as quickly as desired is more a function of who and what they are globally versus the rest. The fact we're in this situation at all is more a function of bad luck than anything else that's obvious.
