Significant progress reported in AstraZeneca vaccine production in Thailand

AstraZeneca released a statement today announcing that their plans to produce its COVID-19 vaccine in Thailand have made “significant progress” and that the first batch of the vaccine will be delivered to the Thai Government this June.

 

The statement says that the country’s Food and Drug Administration has approved Siam Bioscience as a manufacturing facility for the production of AstraZeneca vaccine.

 

It also states that the company, together with Siam Bioscience, has been working to ensure that the facility is on track to supply vaccines to support the Thai government’s national inoculation program.

Vaccine Production at Full Speed

 

 

BANGKOK, (TNA) - AstraZeneca Co and Siam Bioscience Co are speeding up their COVID-19 vaccine production in Thailand and are confident of delivering it to Thais in June.

 

James Teak, president of AstraZeneca (Thailand) Co, said Siam Bioscience received approval from the Food and Drug Administration to produce AstraZeneca's COVID-19 vaccine.

 

With the support from FDA and the Thai government, the vaccine production started and continued quickly as planned. Both companies were speeding up the production and would deliver the vaccine to the Thai government for inoculation among people in Thailand in June, he said.

When they start production in June, I wonder if they will fulfil all of Thailand's needs before starting to export elsewhere?

EU is sueing AstraZenaca for missed deliveries, 75% short. They gave up with AZ and just signed a deal with Pfizer for 1.8 billion doses.

EU woes about AZ vaccine are political. AZ is the work horse vaccine for many countries as it is supplied at cost and proved to be effective. Let's hope that when production starts in Thailand it is used to vaccinate  the entire population starting with first medical staff and the most vulnerable not for the benefit of fat cats in the Tourism Industry

Wonderful news, although as per usual here too bloody late, had over 12 months and STILL NOT making the vaccine . It is NOT rocket science, but using a Thai company, surprised it is that far advanced.

Delivering 1 million doses to Thailand per month (after June) seems like a bit of a drop in the ocean, given than we we need 100 million doses now.

A lot of Thai's are not going to take it due to the adverts that say people died from blood clots. They don't care that it was a drop in the ocean, they only care that people died.

I think you missed the point I was making in my earlier post when I was responding to another. The point was the AZ  vaccine production here is also to be for a further 8 ASEAN nations and in the context of those earlier posts when they  (those ASEAN nations) will get it. Hence my reply "He who pays ( the most ) gets the vaccine.

And what is the size of this batch? And which date in June? June 31? I'm assuming they mean 2021 of course.

    So, they're 'speeding things up' but it's still going to be far off June before any vaccine is produced.  June was the original date so where exactly is the 'speeding up'???   Meanwhile, why can't AZ send some vaccines NOW to bridge the long gap before local production starts?

No mention of how many in the first batch June again back from July. Originally it was 18 million a month, now what is it ?
