Government sets the ball rolling for resumption of international flights in November

Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob on Friday told the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) to coordinate with related parties and prepare for the opening of the country for international flights in November.

“During a meeting with CAAT executives today, I have ordered them to work with public health offices, airlines and airport operators to prepare for international flights as planned in November,” he said.

“The Airports of Thailand Plc, U-Tapao International Airport and Bangkok Airways Plc, as the private operators of airports in Thailand, were also told to draft measures for international travellers in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration in opening the country.”

Nice to see he's apparently out of the hospital after his bout with COVID that he certainly didn't contract by hanging out at Thong Lo entertainment venues....

April 7:

"Thailand's Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob confirmed on Wednesday he has tested positive for the coronavirus and been admitted at a hospital in his home province of Buriram."

What's about the HI-SO DJ who was in prison a few months ago? He had Covid but didn't infect anyone?

What's about all prison staff: Director, warden, chef, cleaners etc.

What's about all visitors?

Have they all been checked?

Most of them went home and are in touch with family and friends/neigbours.

The British guy who was send to prison last week. He surely got a visit from his Embassy.

Is now the British Embassy also on full quarantine?

Sorry, couldn't edit.

It was an American guy.

Might as well create a field hospital for all of Thailand at this point. 70 million cardboard beds while our glorious leader Prayut leads us into the abyss.

Plan B is to allow mild cases to self isolate at home. That was announced a few weeks ago. In Bangkok advise on how to is already being issued.

The numbers keep on moving forward as well as the double digit deaths. Let's see what the weekend brings in cases and Buriram arrests or fines.  I am sure this will make the worldwide ???? news soon.

I am positive that all of this is already on the Radar Screens of those Governments who have Inoculated a high percentage of their Civilians, and with those Civilians wishing to have Holidays.

Thailand is going to be Red Flagged by many, who deem the Country to be a risk, to not just their Citizens, but also to their recovering Economies should Covid be transmitted back by Vacationers.

I think the MoPH's advise on this has been a bit more specific, distinguishing between people with and without symptoms...

There was an article in the Bangkok post, dated Apr 20th that suggested that even cases that have been tested positive, but only have or no symptoms might be able to self isolate at home in order to free up hospital beds.

I don't think we've reached that stage yet.

Southeast Asia Kept COVID-19 Under Control For Most of the Pandemic.

Now It's Battling Worrying New Surges

At Thammasat University Hospital, about 20 miles north of Bangkok, doctors are scrambling to treat COVID-19 patients streaming in. Nearby, extra beds have been crammed in to a student dormitory block, turning it into a field hospital that can accommodate an additional 470 patients.

“We don’t have enough beds, we don’t have enough ventilators,” Anucha Apisarnthanarak, the chief of the infectious diseases division at the hospital, tells TIME. “This is only my hospital, but of course there are a lot more hospitals experiencing the same problem.”

In Jan. 2020, Thailand became the first country outside of China to confirm a case of the disease that became known as COVID-19—but it successfully fought off the pandemic for most of the year, recording less than 5,000 cases in a population of 70 million by mid-December. Now the total has skyrocketed 18-fold to more than 90,000 cases as this onetime COVID success story battles a worrying new surge.

The Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) is considering easing restrictions in provinces currently under strict control and will release a new list of guidelines on Saturday.

CCSA spokesman Taweesin Visanuyothin said the easing of restrictions will be considered based on several factors, including outbreak characteristics, terrain, the number of people at risk of spreading the virus and the number of those vaccinated.

In red-zone provinces, dining-in will be allowed until 9pm, while dining in orange-zone provinces will return to normal. Alcohol consumption in restaurants will continue to be banned everywhere.

Lets hope its not the Indian Variant that arrived with some cases found in quarantine not to long ago.  If they were not careful in all locations at the airport along with the repatriation flights and carriage, this could go from bad to who knows how bad shortly.

Well that answers that.  Airport workers have now become infected and have spread it.  Ugh.  THis government needs to get on the ball.

If you take the prisons cases out, it is basically average 2,000 a day (+/1 100-200 ) for some time now.  The curve in the general community  is essentially flat, not going down but also not trending up.

The new case total of 1,163 for Bangkok province on Saturday appears to be the second highest total of the pandemic, exceeded only by one day of 1,500+ in late April. That is not unexpected, considering the recent increased levels of outreach testing that authorities have been conducting in Bangkok.

The graphic below shows Bangkok's daily totals for May 9-15, with the two edge figures representing of the prior totals since the beginning of April and the far right figure representing the total figure since the start of April.

A government spokesman said the national picture for Thailand is "somewhat of a stable and clear improvement," but Bangkok and surrounding provinces "remain the exception in this equation."

Only Bangkok and three adjoining provinces are reporting 100 or more new cases. Sixteen provinces reported no new cases, and 42 provinces reported 10 or fewer cases out of 77 provinces total.
