PHUKET: Officials in Rawai continue to mete out physical exercise as punishment for first-time offenders caught not wearing a face mask in public.

The campaign began with checkpoints set up throughout the subdistrict at the southern end of the island on May 9.

Since then the campaign has continued with increasing popularity while being reported by national news outlets following the measure appearing to have been first introduced on Koh Tao.

Under what authority do they "exercise this punishment?"

What liability if a person breaks or sprains and ankle while doing as ordered?

Do they exercise off their no helmet fine as well?

Finally some common sense.

typical signs of "weak body, bad nourishment, no exercise, no stamina, alk abuse" --- all of them the wrongdoer's responsibilities!

A monetary fine.

So it's okay not to wear a helmet riding a motirbike on Thai roads, but you're stopped if no mask ...!!! ? ????

They will be the laughing stock of the world soon when this gets out... , maybe WHO should chime in and give them a few pointers on risk to life for each scenario... !

I'm not sure you have to use a helmet in Thailand anymore. Just about everyone have a face mask but very few a helmet.

A face mask while driving a bike will have next to no effect on spreading or getting covid but a helmet will save a lot of lives.

They can pay the 6000-20,000 baht fine.

Looks like they nabbed a couple of foreigners (or maybe a foreign couple)...I wonder if they chose deportation or a few jumping-jacks ????

Masks have been studied for years relating to other viruses . They do nothing to stop Covid. Read top studies going back years, masks cause more problems. Don't believe me, do research.
