Popular Post webfact
Naew Na reported on yet another example of extortion by a state official yesterday. A contractor had gone to the National Anti-Corruption Commission to say that an engineer at the Office of the Basic Education Commission had demanded a 120,000 baht "inspection fee" for a six story building. They presented the NACC and police with an audio recording talking about the payment and then helped set up a sting at a coffee shop in a Ram Intra mall in Bangkok where the money was to be handed over. The cash was photocopied before and the officals moved in as soon as the contractor handed over the money. The engineer was not named. -- © Copyright Thai Visa News 2021-06-28 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow Thaivisa on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates

keith101
How many police does it take to arrest one man ? By the looks of the photo nearly 20 , absolute overkill but not unusual for Thailand .

It depends on whether the press have been invited to help record their heroic actions, and whether the press bother to turn up. 4
Popular Post ryane66
It's everywhere. We had to pay a worker at the land titles office 20,000 baht to get a small piece of land surveyed and subdivided . If we didn't pay they told us it would take 3 to 4 months. They knew we had a buyer and needed it completed in a timely fashion. They were very careful in where we handed over the money. Land of scams and corruption. 3 1

Too greedy. If he had asked for 20,000 baht, I suspect we would not be reading this story. But when you make it hurt bad, you incentivize the victim to seek alternatives. Would he keep all that money for himself? Or is it possible that he was just one of the engineers who demanded money and that money was then divided with all involved people? I wonder if the police will ask these questions and what the answers will be.

They should be out on the streets catching/deterring criminals not hanging around a police station waiting to be photographed! 2

I must admit that they all look very determined, undercover and putting their best foot forward with a photographer in front taking the pictures, nothing suspicious here, go straight in and collect your money Mr. engineer.
