Thailand’s relegation to Tier 2 Watch List, down from Tier 2 last year, in the US State Department’s 2021 Trafficking in Persons Report “does not reflect fairly the significant efforts and concrete progress Thailand has made in combatting human trafficking,” said Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Tanee Sangrat today (Friday).

“The TIP Report, after all, unilaterally makes an evaluation from the U.S.’ perspective and by no means represents any international standard,” Mr. Tanee said of the annual report, released in the early hours of Friday.

Claiming that Thailand has made progress over the years in combatting human trafficking, which is among the country’s national agenda, Mr. Tanee noted the shorter time it has taken, over the past year, to complete the prosecution process, that 67% of offenders have been received severe sentences, with at least five years in prison, and that a new trend of online human trafficking amid the ongoing pandemic has been addressed.

Not fair? Well, what is not fair is being trafficked for sex or slave labor. So, stop trafficking. Stop your army buddies and stop your police buddies from earning millions by destroying lives.

Then we can talk about fair. Until then, stop the lies and deflection.

And most of the current infections are from illegals working in building sites, fish markets etc, get them clamped down & deported, prosecute the officials participating in this evil trade & then you might, just might, get off the watch list, but not before.

Aw! Not fair! When will these government dolts understand that their opinions are irrelevant. What counts is the opinion of other countries and when they regard Thailand as a hub for trafficking and human right abuse they are signalling that they dont accept Thai excuses.

No problem, just bury them in the woods.

And talking of international perceptions of a thoroughly corrupt government and administration, having a heroin trafficker in there doesn't help either.

“The TIP Report, after all, unilaterally makes an evaluation from the U.S.’ perspective"

yes, from the perspective that trafficking is wrong, which of course seems unfair to those doing/profiting from the trafficking

Thailand's drop is well deserved. If Thailand wasn't considered a friendly country, they would have long  been listed Tier 3 anyway.

But yet the US is tier 1 ?

Why unfair?  It is very clear that human trafficking aidded and abetted by the authorities has caused or exarcerbated the second and third waves and no senior figures have been arrested.  They are lucky to be ranked as high as they were this time.
