Pattaya will never be the same again. Once the virus is controlled, Govt departments have to look at how bars have started to operate in the last few years. Many many freelancers, who customers pay their wages through high drink prices, don't have Social security because the bar owners say they are not employed by them. By law if one person works for you, you have to register for SS payment. The greed of many girls who just want money and not pay SS has backfired on them. Now they have no cover whatsoever.

That's right blame the poor girls not the corrupt wealthy  elite.

One of the few advantages of being a foreigner here is that you can keep away from others.  Social distancing is less of a challenge and we generally have a bit more space to stay safe in.

If you wanted to make things as worse as possible, follow the Thai model. Close down country and inflict max pain a year before the virus even hits. This ensures every small business owner is complete

Apparently you didn't visit Pattaya pre internet, when the bars were full of attractive, slim enthusiastic girls. Happy days before mobile phones.

Certainly, the internet has significantly changed it, and internet capable phones have probably put a stake in it's heart.

Don't conflate pre corona , say last 5 years with pre internet. As you said 7/13 : pre corona situation with bored chubby girls. Then @Mac Mickmanus 7/13 : Even back then ...  Referring to pre corona (last 5 years)  Bored unattractive girls. But your reply above jumps back all the way to pre internet/pre phones that is not the same era that your previous post and Mac Mickmanus's post are in

Pre internet, bar prices were reasonable.  Over the time, probably due to rising rents, lady drinks and bar fines increased, some bar fines being the cost of what the lady charges for her services.

The business model changed from making money selling alcohol to tourists, to selling lady drinks and bar fines, because alcohol alone was no longer paying the rent.

With the rise of "digital disrupting" apps, it was only a matter of time before that business model was going to have what Airbnb did to hotels, and Uber did to taxis, do to the Pattaya bar scene.

Mobile  phones had little effect. The girls like to go  out chat and  gossip and socialise. Sure they give numbers our discreetly  at bars, and sure  "play" on them too much. But certainly until covid phones, FB, TC played only a minor role. To think otherwise indicates lack of real knowledge  and experience of the girl scene.

55555 ( the laughing emojis don't work anymore, so I hope you know what that means )

Apparently someone didn't go near the bars in the time before corona when the girls spent more time on their phones than trying to attract customers. Seeing a bunch of bored girls chatting on their phones did nothing to attract me to spend money in their bar.

I said nothing about what they were using the phones for.

Perhaps "lack of real knowledge  and experience of the girl scene" applies to another poster.

Anyway, pre internet, when the bars were full of attractive, slim enthusiastic girls before mobile phones were invented were great days. Happy times indeed.

Not yet for expats.

Not even for high risk expats.

When for even high risk expats in Pattaya?

Who knows ?   We are not even allowed to register -- unless you prepay at a private hospital for some unknown future date.

It's not as if expats are being picked on.  Thai people are seeing the same frustrations.  Less than 1 in 20 have been fully vaccinated.  Judging from the number of anecdotes from TVF'ers getting their jabs, I'd bet that expats are not far behind the dismal percentages for locals.  And expats who don't speak or read the language are naturally at a disadvantage when searching the interweb for options.

Not a chance. This government, and most Thais want rid of the sex-tourism industry.

It's almost gone in Bangkok bar a couple of places and so it will be in Pattaya.

Sadly, you are probably right.

I console myself by the fact that I lived in Thailand (mainly Bangkok) in most of the 1990's. The nightlife (not just the red light places but overall) was great back then, and yes, I was young ????

Then around the year 2000 came the 2 am curfew thing and then later various restrictions and then of course the growth of online dating, which I never fancied much. I mean, the nightlife kept getting to be less and less fun after 2000. That's how I feel anyway.
