Popular Post webfact
A Thai man is facing charges for criminal defamation, and possibly computer crimes, for allegedly adding, to the Thai language Wikipedia entry for controversial Thai virologist Prof. Dr. Yong Poovorawan, a claim that Dr. Yong is the “Sinovac salesman for the Prayut Chan-o-cha administration”. Police searched the Bangkok home of a 24-year-old engineering graduate yesterday (Monday) and confiscated his mobile phone, which is thought to have been used for the alleged crime. This followed a complaint filed by Dr. Yong’s representative. The phrase has since been deleted from the Wikipedia page. Dr. Yong, a famed virologist who heads Chulalongkorn University’s Center of Excellence in Clinical Virology, has voiced several medical opinions deemed to be in favour of the government’s vaccination campaign, which relies heavily on China’s whole virus Sinovac vaccine, amid recent expert findings that it is ineffective in fending off the highly contagious Delta variant, and growing calls for more and faster procurement of mRNA vaccines. Popular Post tingtong
A law that nearly solely exist to keep ppl silent. If the facts are that Sinovac is far from the best vaccine, and the Dr. Proof. pushing it...not bcos medically it is the best ( so why, oh why then??) It is a shame the young man will end up in jail. It is painfully obvious by now to most that the vaccination program isnt as the Tsar promised, neither the speed, nor betting the best vaccines.... If a civilian government, the military would be probably firing up the tanks engines...but what military coup can topple a military regime?

And some shutdowns are fine by him. In a way though, part of his job is to persuade the public that the government's vaccine plan du jour is scientifically sound, and best for the public health. Maybe calling someone with his high rank, a "salesman" is an insult? But maybe everyone is just supposed to prostrate themselves to him, and gobble up every one of his daily nuggets? That said, someone hit their quota on sinovac, and blew it away.
Popular Post internationalism
with his yellow credentials, he well might be working full time for the health ministry and for the CP public relations department. That's why his views are exposed daily on all thai media. Somehow within the last 3 months, when the real problems have started, he is seen less and subdued. It will be difficult for him to prove at courts that he, indeed, is not a peddler for disinformation

Popular Post webfact
Thai graduate arrested after editing Wikipedia to say that Dr Yong was "Sinovac salesman for the government" Picture: Sanook Thai police have arrested a 24 year old engineering graduate for defamation after he edited a Thai Wikipedia page of high profile virologist Dr Yong Poovorawan. The edit said that Dr Yong was "a salesman for Sinovac on behalf of the government of Prayuth Chan-ocha". After learning of this untruth, Dr Yong instructed a woman called Soraya to file a complaint on his behalf with the Pathumwan police. Investigations led to Bang Khun Thian in south western Bangkok and a mobile phone that was used to make the edit. The arrested man is as yet unemployed and also puts "underground" music on YouTube, reported Sanook without further explanation. He faces charges of defamation under article 328 and possibly other charges related to computer crime. There is no suggestion that Dr Yong is a Sinovac salesman. The Thai version of Wikipedia now contains a line that says the salesman reference has been removed and a man is facing defamation charges, notes ASEAN Now. It still refers to criticism of the doctor for comments made about Sinovac and Sinopharm. The English language page for the doctor contains no mention of the arrest of the man or comments about those vaccines, notes ASEAN Now. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2021-07-14 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow ASEAN NOW on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates 2

Dogmatix
This is horrific. While I cannot condone anyone posting nonsense on Wikipedia, complaining to Wikipedia and having it deleted is the appropriate course of action. No respect for the doctor for having someone carted off to prison for a prank. Didn't have a lot for him anyway.

JayBird
I suppose wiki can now accurately be updated to state that a person went to jail for updating wiki to say someone was a salesman.
