Thailand’s infection household waste has increased over the past month, due to a continual surge in COVID-19 infections, with the upward trend expected to continue due to the practice of “home isolation” whereby asymptomatic and mild cases as well as those awaiting hospital beds, are asked to stay home with remote supervision by medical personnel, and especially with the antigen test kits now allowed for home use, according to the Department of Health.

The department’s director-general, Dr. Suwanchai Wattanayingcharoenchai, said today (Friday) that there were 31,709.86 tonnes of infectious garbage generated between January and June this year. In June, an average of 210 tonnes of infectious waste was recorded on daily basis, due to more infected people entering home or community isolation.

Infectious household garbage includes used face masks, used sanitary product, disposable food containers and antigen test kits. Proper and safe disposal of these items is urged, to reduce the risk of the spread of COVID-19.

If you want this disposed of in a safe manner, then you must provide the people with the right bins and disposal sites. I can't recall the past time I saw such a bin/facility here.

Oh come on. You ask too much.????

Well if it's a problem the Dept of Health ought to do something about it ... not just issue a press release and wash its hands of the problem.

Pun intended?????

Be a good start by encouraging correct disposal of face masks .

From that list, 95+% of the trash by volume will be the food containers, and I can't imagine people will go through the trouble of treating their crumpled Food Panda boxes as hazardous waste. And none of what is listed is actually "infectious" per se - at best, it's "potentially infectious", a category that would cover virtually everything.

Hua Hin municipality  has it covered disposing of their waste by donating it to a province 200 km away.....

How is that the be done out in the boonies? Urging is great, but concrete direction is needed to poo yai, next level up etc.

We burn all our waste. We have to, or rats will get it, dogs, chickens, etc. There is no bin collection here.
