Going to airport and back during curfew?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

What would you recommend me? I just realized that there's the curfew...

So, my girlfriend is flying out back to Europe today at 23:15 from Suva airport and of course I wanted to drop her off and come back after. Public transport apparently doesn't run after 9pm so a) I'm not sure if I can easily come back b) any unpleasantries I can face coming back from airport if I face some checkpoint or something.

Thanks in advance,

Matt

Will you be driving her, or just accompanying her in a taxi or Grab to say goodbye? Although I haven't seen it spelled out as clearly as it was for last year's curfew, I believe taking passengers to and from the airport is still an allowed exception - but that would probably apply only if you're actually operating the vehicle, not merely coming along for the ride.

In either case, if it were me, I would avoid the whole issue by dropping her off at 8pm and then going directly home in order to arrive back before the curfew starts at 9pm. That's three hours before her flight, which is kind of early, but is actually what many airlines are recommending now anyway.

(I did the same thing this morning, albeit in reverse. I was taking a friend to a 7am flight, and though I would have preferred to have left my place at 3:15 or 3:30am, I instead waited and left exactly at 4am when the restrictions ended. He still got to the airport two hours before the flight, and we avoided any possible argument at a checkpoint.)

Yea, I was overthinking it. Eventually left airport at 10pm. All good.
