I'm out of the discussion as we had virtually nothing when we got married 42 years ago.  So it would be 50/50.  But now I'm about to double our net worth due to an inheritance.  I wonder how that works.  Not that I really give a <deleted>, just curious.

In the U.S.A., in my case, an inheritance from my mother's side of the family, when we lived in California, and an inheritance from my fathers side of the family, when we were living in Pennsylvania, was considered to be mine alone.

My wife had no right to either.  Only what I chose to give to her.

You're lucky your ex-wife didn't poison you to make it look like an accident so that she can inherit all your money.

It looks like she married you for your money and not love.

My Thai wife married me so she could get a green card in the U.S..  I found this out after we were married.

I also found out that she planned on leaving me when her two year conditional green card became a permanent green card two years later.

It has been has been 30 years since we married and she hasn't left me yet.   I don't know what it is that I am doing wrong.

This time 3 pages and not a single update from the OP @charliechoc. Interesting!

most banks in developed world will want to know if you are married before releasing your money,

I've never had a UK bank ask me that before transferring money to me.
