Can the generalizing on this forum stop some time? Just because you people have seen some guys do the wrong thing, deos not mean that all are doing it. Most of the drivers, both on MC and in cars are not! Get your facts straight!

Generalising as in "guys" when surely  just as many women arent, although in my  opinion the generalising is 100%  correct.

That is no slow vehicle impact !

And should really. He was in the right lane: the fast.

The truck driver however, likely rather slow, decided to maneuver from the far left to U-turn from far right line...ie generally full length block the road?

"The driver of the truck, Den, 44, said he was in the far left lane and was crossing the road to the far right to accomplish a U-turn when the accident happened. "

Maybe the pickup was driving fast, but the truck driver surely didn't check if he is clear to cross the lanes!

would be just fair to check both for alcohol, and throw is some drug test too!

RIP the 3 girls.

sad result pickup was speed mangeled, driver not incharge of his farrari like performance vehicle.

12 years driving in pattaya seen day time excellent conditions totally unexpainable serious accidents drivers not being able to anticiate traffic movement ahead or crashing into parked vehicles its emdemic in their culture  thai's should not be allowed drive.

Do you think he was travelling at the speed limit?  Look at the damage to his vehicle, and that's with some deceleration prior to collision.

The limit on that road is 80km/h, yes it is possible that damage was caused at that speed.

How do you know there was deceleration prior to collision ?

Few years back hired an outfit to get my drivers license which involved a van and driver transporting me along with 5 others nearly to BKK. The Thai driver, constantly on the phone fighting with his wife drove at 130kph, weaving in and out yelling at his wife. I told him I was sick , pull over at next restroom. Got out and after informing him hw was a ********** idiot, got a cab back to Pattaya along with another farang on board. Went to their office and with help from a video I took got a full refund. Thais generally do not obey laws, are clueless when it comes to physics and drive like ********* idiots.

There we have it again. You do like many here. Take one example as a bad experience, and after have the opinion that they are generally clueless and disobey laws. Really? Very trustworthy. Sure, this experience must have been terrible and frightening but it will not give you the right to generalize and put all under the same rug.

You must have missed the development of the world. Today they use the word guys for both men and women.

There is also a problem with your terminology. A generalizing that is 100% correct? Sorry, that does not exist.

Is that so, WHO didn't seem to think so. Thailand and Libya lead the World in death on the roads with over 40 per 100,000.

Thailand and Libya are only two countries with over 40 deaths per 100,000

USA                           12.4

UK                              2.9

Switzerland               2.2

Sweden                      2.2

South Korea               6.5

Russia                        11.6

France                         5.0

Thailand’s provincial roads are the most dangerous with a death rate of 72 deaths per thousand in Rayong province while Bangkok’s roads, at most times a traffic log jam, are the safest. It appears to many observers that the dangers faced on Thailand’s roads are very much a Thai cultural aberration.

No one murdered anyone.

No one has been charged with anything yet so no one can yet be blamed, and that includes the pick up driver.

The six-wheeled truck was performing a U-turn, the pick-up driver was on the left hand side of the road crossing lanes to do the same U-turn.

He managed to hit the back of the six-wheeler hard enough to tip it on it's side, virtually disintegrate his own pick-up and kill his three innocent occupants, and you say no-one is to blame.

And a lack of true drivers education reinforced by actual policing. Almost got run over on the sidewalk this morning by a Moto taxi with a passenger, to lazy to go up the road, make a u-turn and go back to the street he wanted.  Tool.

It looks like the nearside took the impact, hence he got out.

let's say the Isuzu is driving along at 100km/hr   as the road ahead is clear and looks ok,   however a truck which was in the far left lane decides it's ok to swing a sharp 90' degree turn to attempt a U-turn.

The truck driver should not be in the far left lane if attempting a U-turn,  and was the truck too far past the U-turn area while being in the far left lane.   ??

just saying ....

You do not seem to understand. WHO report things as they are. They not generalize. Even if the numbers are one of the highest in the world, you can not generalize and say that it´s most who drive bad or all the drive crazy. We are still talking about a fraction of the population. Unfortunately your problem is common. The human race seems to track everything that is bad. Only see the bad. After that use a vast percentage of stupidity and believe all do same bad.

True, but I'm amazed at how many foreigners I've seen going native and violating all kinds of rules in Thailand that they couldn't afford to break back home- where there's chase cars and real enforcement.  They can't claim they don't know any better.

That's death per population.  Look at deaths per registered vehicle or deaths per km driven and there are countries with 50-100 X as many as Thailand.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_traffic-related_death_rate

And scooters are 20-40x as dangerous as a car and 75% of vehicles in Thailand have 2 wheels.  If 75% of Brits or Americans were consigned by economics to scooters, their death rates would be astronomical, too.

The quote in the DN says Mr. Den, the six-wheeler driver, said: "that before the accident he was parked in the leftmost lane and was about to turn to the right lane" (I assume about to make a U -turn).

From the picture, both vehicles are over on the left side of the carriageway - so he didn't get far with turning (legal or not) - and both vehicles (especially the Isuzu) are quite far from the central reservation.

You really think a pickup could bowl over a heavier vehicle doing just 80?

Thailand’s roads are the most dangerous in the world. It’s not just a statistic but a very real human tragedy. For foreigners visiting Thailand and thinking of driving, it is worth taking a look at the risks involved – they are almost surreal. Thailand’s roads are now officially the most dangerous in the world.
